3rd Annual Southern RI Parker Shoot – 4/2

Hello Everyone,

I am excited to keep this tradition going. This Parker shoot will be on Sunday April 2nd at 10AM at Peace Dale Shooting Preserve in South Kingstown, Rhode Island: https://www.pdshootingpreserve.com

We'll do the main sporting clays course and they have 5-stand for later if anyone is interested. There is a picnic area so please feel free to bring lunch/coolers. I would like to give them an estimate of the size of our group so please let me know if you can attend.

It is always so nice to see and meet PGCA members in person. I have a few “new” Parkers to show off to some of you since last year. Hopefully, we will have some nice weather and a fun shoot!

bob lyons 02-19-2023 07:29 PM

I have put it on the calendar and hopefully will bring Adam and my other son Chris

I'll plan to be there - so far my calendar shows I'm free on Sunday 4/2...

We ceased stop and frisk on this side of the small pond, so we ship our switchblades in our gun cases. Ain’t NY great.

john pulis 03-20-2023 07:19 AM

Sorry to say, I have just been informed that the LI boyz will not cross the little pond for the April 2 shoot. Have a good shoot.

Corey Barrette 03-20-2023 09:08 PM

It’s on my calendar and I’m going to do my best to attend. Would be great to meet other members and shoot here in the area.

Ditto.

Plus my friend Kathy G. and her new rescue dog/terrier mix, "Zoey".

Tom Jay 03-25-2023 12:57 PM

Won’t be able to join this year. There’s a big Setter Club of New England field trial that weekend on Cape Cod.

Jay Oliver 03-25-2023 07:50 PM

Looking forward to this shoot next Sunday at 10AM. Decisions, decisions on what Parker to shoot. I will bring a few for show and tell as all of you should...

Should I shoot a grade 2 20ga lifter or a 410VH or a 32" 20ga DHE or a damascus 16 ga GHE? Maybe a a 12 gauge BHE or a 28ga VH I had restoked that is just gorgeous?

I am hoping for a good turnout and great weather. Can't wait to see all of you!

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Jay Oliver 03-29-2023 10:33 AM

Hello Everyone,

Looking forward to our shoot this Sunday. The weather looks cloudy, but not to cold. A little windy to keep us on our toes when we are shooting.

As a reminder, there is a nice picnic area with a grill when we are finished shooting.

Here is the website that has directions. See you Sunday at 10!

The weather was great and it was a super, fun day at Peacedale Shooting Preserve.

PGCA Members Don McQuade and Bob Lyons assembled a group of affable enthusiasts for the clays course.

1) Jim shooting his Spanish double that dates back to his youth, now fully refurbished.

2) Don with 16 gauge DHE.

3) Bob with 16 gauge Parker hammer gun.

4) Steve holding with his 28 gauge AAHE.

5) Liz shoots her Browning Citori 20 gauge Feather Lightning

6) Dennis shoots his Browning BSS 20 gauge

7) Bob pulls for Steve shooting his AAHE 28 gauge.

8) the squad shooters.

One more, father and daughter, of Jim and Liz.

Donald McQuade 04-03-2023 07:40 AM

Russel, thanks for pictures. It was a fun day of shooting with great people. On the bad side, I thought I was done with my gun buying days, but then I shot Bob's sweet little 16 ga hammer gun, and now I am on a new quest.

Dan Steingraber 04-03-2023 07:40 AM

Wow, 28 AAHE.

Dean Romig 04-03-2023 07:44 AM

That 28 ga. AAHE was a CSMC/Parker, right?

Since we never met up with the first group, Thank You, Russel for those picture. The second wave took to the Grouse course. Larry Frey, Allen Molin, Our host Jay, Corey Barrette, and I Had an immense amount of fun with Wind affected birds. It was a joy to be in the presence of not one, but Two AAHE guns. Once the huge leads the swamp targets required was mastered, we all had fun with the incoming chartreuse birds. We all seemed to find our groove, shooting a variety of Looong barrels, high grades, and bores of 12, 16 and 20.

Dean Romig 04-03-2023 08:55 AM

Hi guys - sorry I missed it.

Next time…

.

Donald McQuade 04-03-2023 09:01 AM

Dean, you are correct, Steve's AAHE 28 ga is one of the Remington/CSMC guns. And he was shooting lights out with it.

bob lyons 04-03-2023 10:17 AM

Don
That 16 gauge hammer gun does that effect on most people even the OU guys at the skeet range. The ones that never shoot SS.
But it pales in comparison to that A grade presentation gun you brought for show and tell. Truly an amazing gun!

Russ / Cathy thank you for the photos as I never remember to take any while shooting.

Bob

It never ceases to amaze me how sensationally smashed up those targets can be with only 3/4-ounces of lead shot, as we saw Steve do yesterday with that 28-gauge Remington/CSME AAHE Parker.

A few additional pics from Peace Dale on Sunday. Thanks for organizing, Jay.

It was a pleasure to meet and shoot with each of you. Looking forward to the next time.

Corey Barrette 04-04-2023 04:13 PM

One of these days I’ll figure out how to edit/rotate pictures.

Dean Romig 04-04-2023 04:21 PM

Corey, step 1. before you post pics here is you must edit the pic in some way. me, I just crop a tiny edge off the picture.

Dean Romig 04-04-2023 04:22 PM

Is that Edgar smoking a pipe?? Does Julie know?

Jay Oliver 04-04-2023 04:47 PM

I had go back to reality yesterday and today with work and didn't have a chance to see these great pictures. It was soooo nice to talk Parkers non-stop for half a day. I did stray a bit and brought a Greener 16ga with 24" barrels that I believe was owned by Gene Hill. I didn't shoot with the group, but forgot my vest and shot a round with when I went back later in the afternoon.

It was also nice to meet some members from the forum. Corey's Damascus AAHE is a work of art. I like Larry's AAHE as well, which has a gorgeous English stock.

Next year I am going to a better job getting everyone together at the end. I am going to plan on a big cookout where we call all enjoy some great food, time together, talk about how well we shot and do some show and tell.

Can't wait to do it again!
Jay

I probably should start a new thread and I will if everyone is interested. Here are some pics from a preserve hunt I did in February, which was the first time I shot the gun:
