RST 16 ga available

RST now has the Falcon Lite 16 ga 7/8 oz load available-limit 2 cases.
Just a heads up

Joseph Sheerin 02-02-2023 08:58 AM

Bought a flat yesterday, good to see them back in business with the 16's, although the new price point isn't exactly something to get excited about. :D

Garry L Gordon 02-02-2023 09:10 AM

Thanks, Harold, for letting us know.

And thanks, Pat, for letting me know where I can borrow some 16 ammo. :)

Supply the dogs and the place, I'll bring ammo. :D

At least for MO, I only had to pay shipping.... :D

Garry L Gordon 02-02-2023 09:27 AM

I sure hope they start loading some spreader loads soon! I'm not a good enough shot otherwise.:)

$234.67 to my front porch in Tennessee Harry. That is pricey but the flat I ordered yesterday will last me a long time.

Mike Poindexter 02-02-2023 12:32 PM

Site shows estimated shipping at $41 for 10 boxes, but when I go to checkout it jumps to $71. Admittedly, Colorado is farther out than other states, but I just cant justify $290 for a flat of shells delivered. I have enough other shells to weather the current storm. Thanks for the heads up, though.

I think mine were $236.... Same attitude, I will use them only for upland hunting, so they will last me a while. Already had about a flat or so worth of 16ga 2.5's so just double my stock while I can.

I guess I better learn to shoot better, so I don't use my left barrel anymore. :D

Thank you Harold. Just placed an order for 10 boxes of #7 shot. Think they had just 25 boxes of 5's; 20 boxes of 6's; and 45 boxes of 7's left. No longer have them by the case on their website. 10 boxes were $278.72 shipped to SC. Appreciate the heads up.
Oh...they had boxes of the 20 Ga. • 2 1/2" • Falcon Lite • Vel. 1125 • 7/8 oz. Load available also.
I agree with Joe- I need to get the right barrel to be more effective.

$243 a case to Minnesota, a bit stiff but at least there were some available

Harold Lee Pickens 02-02-2023 10:24 PM

Glad I reload and have hundreds of 2 1/2" hulls for 16, of course reloading components arent growing on trees, but I'm good for quite a while. It does however affect the ability to shoot clays, have cut way back on that.

Factory low-recoil 16-gauge ammo is much lower-priced when it is unavailable.

Over the last year I have developed a strange new respect for my 12-gauge guns. A couple of years ago, having become more focused on the 16s, I put a 12-gauge GH up for sale with a dealer. I recently retrieved it after it went several months unsold.

During this ammo shortage I can still obtain light-recoil 12-gauge ammo at my club.

Dean Romig 02-03-2023 12:02 AM

Yesterday Cabella's in Augusta, ME had some 12 gauge 1 oz. game loads, Winchester I think, for $10.99 a box. I didn't need any so I didn't buy any.

They also had a custom engraved Sterlingworth and a couple of Trojan 12's, one a 28" and the other a 30". They seem to be easing back into used guns.

Two items of advice: Reload and reload.

Victor Wasylyna 02-03-2023 07:15 AM

Eggs are $7.50 per dozen, and y’all are complaining about $20-$25 per box for specialized hunting loads? The new norm will not be like the last norm. And, with real interest rates still in the negative, inflation is not transitory—it’s here to stay. Learn to reload or get used to ponying up big bucks to feed your shotguns.

Reload...I get that. Why not raise chickens, too?

Victor Wasylyna 02-03-2023 07:34 AM

Because they poop, Garry. A lot.

Harold Lee Pickens 02-03-2023 07:35 AM

Russel, been thinking I should start shooting a 12 more, as ammo is more availale. I dont have many 12's, but do have a Fox pin gun and a Ugartechea model 30 that need to get the dust blown out of the barrels.
Wally World typically has the Win Universal and/or Fed Game loads in 100 packs in 12's and 20's at $35/100 pack for those that really dont need to shoot 2 1/2" shells. These are mid velocity--1200fps or less. Ive picked up a 1000 rounds of 20 ga 7 1/2 and 8's, and not stopping there. I can load 2 1/2" 20's , but usually shoot 3/4 oz reloads low pressure loads using 20/28 in AA hulls and dont worry about it.

:rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf:

Yeah, we raised chickens for several years, and hogs, too. Now if you want to talk about producing poop...there's no business like hog business.

Joseph Sheerin 02-03-2023 09:38 AM

There is a reason I shoot 12's and 20's at clays, and 16's at feathers.... :D

Those Nobel low recoil 20ga rounds are perfect dirt shooters out of my trojan.

Dean Romig 02-03-2023 10:10 AM

What is a "dirt shooter"?

Local slang for shooting clays...... :D

Victor Wasylyna 02-03-2023 10:13 AM

I assume he is referring to a gun used to shoot clay targets.

Dean Romig 02-03-2023 10:35 AM

Okay I get it... so I shoot "dirts" and when I'm in the VT hills I shoot "buds".;)

Mike Koneski 02-03-2023 12:39 PM

And this is why I reload 2 1/2" and 2 3/4" 16g. I don't run out for hunting or clays.

When you reload the 2.5's. How do you do that and get a good crimp?

I bought a lee load all 16ga, just to give it a try. I plan to load the rst's once I empty them. The Lee is still sitting in the box so I have never started. Have some sg-16 wads, #8 shot, primers, etc. I have read, you can place a nickel under the shell when you crimp, to get a good 2.5" crimp, thought I might play around with that...
