Hausmann's Annual Northeast Side by Side Classic
I just made room reservations at the Quality Inn & Suites in Vestal, NY for this shoot. I'll be arriving on Thursday afternoon May 31 and reserved my room through June 2nd departing the morning of the 3rd.
I took the liberty of asking for a block of 8 rooms at the group rate of $103.20 per night under the name of the Parker Gun Collectors Association. The regular price is $129.90 per night. If you choose to book a room at Quality Inn & Suites (we've stayed there a dozen times before for this event) please ask for Kathy - she's very accommodating and I also asked if they are still pet-friendly, to which she responded "Oh yes, we love our little furry friends." Telephone number is 607-821-3806 option #2 . |
That’s very good of you Dean

Dean , I know that is the usual dates but I can't find them listed anywhere, did you talk to Ernie .
|
It’s on their website under the Events tab.
. |
Dean ,that's strange all I can find on there web site is 2022 under events tab.
|
Thanks very much for that note.
This prompted me to call Ernie and he told me the Northeast SXS Classic will be held this year on June 1st thru 3rd and he has vendors all set up and apologized that it’s not shown on his website yet. I will edit the dates in my earlier posts… . |
I live nearby Hausmann's in PA and this doesn't apply to me but just wondering, what are the current restrictions, if any, for bringing long arms into NY state? As most of us have read in the news there are at least some new NY laws in effect. How about gents/gals who don't have a NY State non-resident hunting license and are just "visiting" in NY for a hotel stay in Vestal.
Also in the past I've talked with gents while at Hausmann's who carry handguns with their in-state CCP. From what I understand NY is NOT a reciprocal state and there may be new laws, and if in possession of a handgun you could get in a world of hurt if involved in a traffic accident or whatever while in NY. Me? When visiting our daughter who lives in upstate NY I leave my handgun at home. Also, just recently a PA friend told me he forgot about the NY laws and was in transit for a business meeting in NY. He stopped while still in PA in a rural area, disassembled his semi-auto pistol and stashed the pieces separately in the woods, then retrieved same on his return trip. Better safe than sorry! Hopefully one of our NY state members will reply to both scenarios. |
Thanks Frank - I don't know the answer and don't know the specifics of NY firearms laws.
The decision to travel through NY or stay at a hotel in NY is entirely the responsibility of those choosing to do so. Incidentally, I just asked Kathy about their cancellation policy and refund policy and she said they have a 48 hour policy, meaning up to 48 hours before the date of your arrival you will not be charged or penalized. Less than 48 hours there will be a small % penalty I imagine. . |
Frank, as far as I know long guns, unloaded, in a case, outside of the reach of the passengers is not an issue in NY unless they are of the "assault rifle" genre (which can mean anything, like having a pistol grip). That does not apply to New York City. Do not bring any gun into the city. Do not even think about bring a handgun into NY unless you are a NY resident with a permit. NY does not recognize any out of state permits.
|
It almost impossible not to break the law in NY. Here is my understanding. Long guns can be in a soft case in a vehicle unless you leave the vehicle unattended then the long gun must be in a hard case locked. If you stop to make a bathroom visit in NY and you leave your vehicle unattended and your gun is in a soft case you're in violation. If the establishment you stop at does not have a sign posted allowing guns on the premises you are in violation. Just nuts!
|
Frank and others,
There are many new laws for 2023 that should likely only impact lightly. Most importantly: NYS does not recognize any other state CCL. All guns if left unattended must be cased in a locked fire resistant hard case. These are the regs that most could be affected by. I could post a full summary of everything new or attach a link. https://scopeny2a.org/resources/new-...22-final-1.pdf Bob Jurewicz |
And that my friends, is why I choose to stay in PA instead of NYS.:nono:
|
Daryl: Maryland doesn't seem any better than NY from what I read recently.
|
The requirement to be locked inside a fire resistant case could be a costly issue for gents/gals with multiple guns. I presume the common and reasonably priced Kolpin and similar plastic cases will not meet that fire resistant consideration.

Harry - That's their 2022 schedule. I talked to Ernie Hausmann this morning and he apologized his website hasn't been updated with the 2023 dates..... It is June 1, 2, 3 this year. . |
A) Effective September 1, 2022, if you leave your gun unattended in a vehicle, it must
be unloaded and locked in a fire, impact, and tamper resistant storage depository that is hidden from view. Glove compartments and glove boxes are not appropriate safe storage depositories. A plastic or aluminum, lockable, hard-sided, gun case or safe will suffice for this purpose. Plastic is ok! Bob Jurewicz |
Good reasons to camp out at Ernies.
Dean, disapointed to hear you wont be camping out with us. Just think, most of us were in violation bringing our prize Parkers to the banquet last year. I, for one, wont cross the border now. |
NY has got to be the most poorly governed state in the US. So this weekend the Empire State Gun Collectors Assc. holds a very large gun show at the NY State owned Empire State Convention Plaza in Albany our state capital. The Convention Plaza is a sensitive area according to the new law where no firearms of any type are allowed.

Why anyone would stay in NY is beyond me. Tunkhannock is about 20-25 minutes from Ernie's and has three hotels and many B&Bs. A few motels too. Same hotels/motels we promote for our July shoot at Rock Mountain. The best part is we can carry concealed and there are no Draconian anti-freedom gun laws just waiting to entrap an unwary law-abiding citizen. We only go to NY for the occasional restaurant meal. I refuse to hunt there. I will not give any tax dollars to the NYS Nazis than I absolutely have to. :banghead::cuss:
Along with the issues pointed out in this thread is a good reason for the Parker banquet to be held at a PA location the next time it's scheduled during a shoot at Hausmann's or Rock Mountain, etc.... |
Mike,
Does PA recognize other state's CCL? Bob Jurewicz |
Bob, yes. For a great source of LTC/CCW reciprocity list, go to the USCCA website. It all depends on any reciprocity agreements between the AGs. Here's a link...
https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/res...ciprocity_map/ If you are a resident of the Peoples Republics of NY, NJ, MD and have a CCW/LTC permit, you can apply for a PA LTC, otherwise there is no reciprocity. |
Thanks Mike - That's very useful and informative.

No, the law had not changed yet. It changed a few months later.
|
I am afraid this thread my end up creating more confusion than clarity.
NY Law distinguishes between handgun carry and long gun transport. The provisions that cover concealed carry don't impact long gun transport. Long guns only need locking hard cases if left unattended in your vehicle and they are not prohibited from movement in and out of the motels. Bob Jurewicz |
I cannot comment lest the eyes in the sky haul me in. Let's just say I will be leaving NY as soon as I'm able.
|
So Dean, now you know why I never stop in for a coffee on my way to Maine.
|
Most poorly Governed?

And the creep Gavin Newsom running that state? They haven't invented a gun law that this gun hating "fine Gentleman" doesn't LOVE. |
Larry, stop mincing words and tell us how you really feel!

No I don’t really. Maybe because you’re carrying a handgun? Most of my friends who drop by are carrying and I’m sure not a whistle blower… and you’ve got NO SUCH FLIMSY EXCUSE not to stop by my cottage on the lake for good conversation and refreshments. Heck it’s halfway to Greenville and a good place to stop for a rest. . |
Just made my Reservation at the Quality for this year's NE S/S.
Verified with Kathy that guns in and out of the facility is no problem. Also, cancellation is provided for. Bob Jurewicz |
Thanks Bob!

Bob J and all the others...
Ken Snyder and I have reservations at the Quality Inn as before. As always, our room will have a variety of fine Bourbons for your tasting pleasure. We are generally down the hall that has the walk-in showers for handicapped people. We hope to see you there. |
we have strict gun laws in the campground! If you dont bring your guns out for ogling and pass around, you may not be offered any bourbon or smoked grouse/pheasant. I remember when Dean left his 28 ga there. The Gator will be there to offer Uber rides back to your camp.
