Shenk Shotgun shells?

Anyone heard of this new company apparently loading 2.5" low pressure shotgun shells?

At $194/flat not cheap, they are using Cheddite hulls (the ones in the picture), which no-one else can get either. Located in NE Pa. based on the 717 area code????
Time will tell.

Anybody else have thoughts on the 'swirl' crimp on the "Quail" load?

That's how mine always turn out :)

The supply chain crunch forced me to try some off the shelf shells in my Parkers even those with shorter chambers. Several major companies make 12 ga. 2 3/4" shells with 1oz at 1180fps. RST makes a 2 1/2" 1oz at 1175fps. When I shot those two together in a Damascus gun I couldn't tell the difference and have gone through a few flats of the 2 3/4" shells in my Damascus Parkers - I am not recommending this, just my own experience

Now if they made some nice 12ga 7/8oz and 3/4oz shells at around 1150fps I would be interested.

I thought NE PA was 570 and SE PA was 717 . When I was in Scranton I had a 570 number ?

Timothy Salgado 12-13-2022 11:22 AM

Craig ,
SE Pa is 215 and 610 area codes. I believe 717 is now North and the middle of the state.

keavin nelson 12-13-2022 11:23 AM

NW

I meant NW, but actually more central. York area is 717.

I guess I'm just picky, but the swirl says, to me, the press isn't adjusted for the hull length.

pre-order only? Payment up front? Sorry but this smells. I would be very cautious about purchasing from a company where zero product has left the factory in an industry with a known component shortage.

Garry L Gordon 12-13-2022 02:17 PM

Anyone out there purchased any of these???

Richard Flanders 12-13-2022 02:31 PM

The money up front pre-order thing definitely stinks. No way I'd do that. Maybe they need the money so they can outfit the factory...!

i'll wait till they are actually in business and shipping product.

Bill Murphy 12-13-2022 03:11 PM

This company, at least the phone number, is in Glen Rock, York county.

edgarspencer 12-13-2022 03:54 PM

Many companies take orders for out-of-stock items, but only put the CC charge thru when they ship.

Brian Dudley 12-13-2022 04:19 PM

2022 seems like an odd time to start up a new shotshell venture.

sure...old established companies you have dealt with before. i do it all the time. a company you never heard of that's yet to ship anything? they maybe totally legit but no harm in waiting. there is definitely a niche that could use some more product.

Jay Oliver 12-13-2022 04:35 PM

If I was considering a business like this, I might put up a website like that to see if there is any real demand. If you get a lot of orders you go into production.

I wouldn't take money up front but maybe this is their slick way to buy components/supplies. Less upfront money...

Just speculating...

Have not purchased any shells from them. Here is the link to Shenk Ammo. Appears to be a manufacturer of pistol/rifle calibers. Appears they are trying to expand. Nothing on their website I could find on the shot shells.

That website smells also. No address, says there are a lot of dealers but no information is provided? And then they have this in one of the website sections?...

William Maynard 12-03-2023 01:52 PM

Stay away from this company!

Buyers Beware.
I found this so called ammo supplier while searching online because RST was back logged. So, to test the waters, back on Oct. 19, 2023 I ordered 3 boxes of 12 Ga. #6 shot, "The Grouse" which their website indicated was in stock. As of today, 12/3/23 I still do not have my order. After multiple emails, On 11/7/23 I finally received a email from them apologizing for the delay and saying the order was shipped with a tracking # from UPS. To date the UPS website says, "shipping label created". They will not respond to emails. If they were up front and there was communication, a little honesty this normaly would not be a problem. Not a good way to start up a business. especially online where word of mouth and bad reviews travel quickly. So boys and girls, you may want to think twice before trusting your hard earned money with Shenk Shotshell.

B & P Competition makes a 12 gauge 1 oz at 1160 it's worth a look, I have shot some in my 2 5/8" chamber everything went well. They also make a 1 1/8 oz at 1160, sometimes you have to make do with whats out there.

Jay Oliver 12-04-2023 08:29 AM

William, I am sorry to hear of your bad experience. Edit, I mixed this company with another new company and have edited this post. I hope you hear some good news soon.

Dan, I do like those 12ga 1160 B&P 1oz shells too. That is the brand my Sporting clays place sells and I use them in several of my Parker 12ga hammer guns. And they are usually always in stock

Mills Morrison 12-04-2023 09:58 AM

It was interesting that they had a table at the Vintagers, but I found it and no one was there. I'd stay away. I've heard of other bad experiences too

William Maynard 12-04-2023 11:03 AM

I would be very cautious. I haven't even heard of anyone receiving any deliveries from them ??? They charged my card immediately. I sent them another email this past Saturday and I still haven't heard from them.

Mills Morrison 12-04-2023 12:56 PM

I ordered from Salt Creek and used their 12 gauge Bismuth on a hunt. It did well. I have another order from them pending now. So far I am very pleased with Salt Creek

Brian Dudley 12-05-2023 12:20 PM

I did see that they had a table at the VC. Set up outside the tent on the way to the clubhouse. They had a couple boxes of shells out and a gun. Maybe for test firing. Ken Snyder did speak with the guy when we were going out to shoot.
He was likely just there to try and take orders and not actually sell anything on the spot.

Their ungodly high price would be enough of a reason not to buy. I think it was something like $25/box or something.
