Major Waldron's NEW YEARS EVE shoot
Traditionally when weather has allowed we have had a PGCA get together and shoot on New Years Day at Major Waldron's in Barrington NH. This year NYD falls on a Sunday which is the scheduled day for Skeet shooting and the club will be quite busy. I talked with a long time member and director and we think SATURDAY Dec 31st would be a better day for all involved.
On Saturday there will be an open Trap field, an open Skeet field and the 5 stand course will be open as well. Shooting would start at 9AM. I will have to check and see if prices changed since I last ran the Wed evening trap shooting but it was $6 a round for non-member to shoot trap or skeet and $7 for a round of 5 stand. Is anyone interested in coming on Saturday 12/31? If so I will post directions and any updates in a reply. |
I will be there! Hoping for good weather, since last year didn’t work out. :smiley7::clap:

I'll be there

Count me in Pete.

Pete:
Thanks for considering this, and, God-willing, count me in. When I have attended this non-official PGCA event in the past, it has been super, including the hot food in the range shack, such as the wild-game stews. And it has been at the right time of the year to bring together the vintage gun enthusiasts of the region and a few that are not who make the trek to participate. PGCA members that you never know of, as they don't have an online presence, have shown up in the past, which ads to being able to put a face to the online personalities "known" only via the PGCA Forum. It has been my opportunity to handle and even shoot guns the likes of which I will never be able to own. |

I really wish I could attend but I’m not sure I can get there and back home in time for the Georgia/Ohio State game.

I am going to see if son Henry is willing to make the LONG ride to Waldron's to shoot.
It is a wicked good time and I haven't seen those crazy boys in a LONG time. Is Stub Twist attending? |

Count me IN - and with a little bit of "sweet-talkin" I may bring a new friend  who doesn't shoot clays but hunts deer, moose and grouse (the back-woods Maine way ;))

Some do it that way while others walk the woods sneaking up on them and popping their heads off before they take wing… if they are quick enough.
To each his (or in this case, her) own. The law allows for both ways, but NOT for shooting from a vehicle. . |

The weather is looking pretty good so far!!
Saturday 12/31 - 52 degrees, mostly cloudy :) |
By my count ot looks like a turnout of 6 or 7 at Major Waldron's next weekend..
|
I'm going to try to make it as well.
|
i see 30% chance of rain at Waldrons. still planning to go
|
Looks like if the rain shows it is going to be late in the day.....
|
I am looking at a forecast of warm temperatures, light Southwest winds, and minimal precipitation, described as occurring in the "p.m.".
As the shoot usually takes place from the a.m. into mid-day, it seems favorable for sportsmen, sportswomen, gun show-and-tellers, camp cooks, and other can-do outdoor types. . |
The weather looks to be good for those planning on coming to Major Waldrons tomorrow, 12/31. Cloudy with a high temp of 55 deg. Showers are predicted to hold off until 5PM.
Shooting commences at 9AM. Directions to the club can be found here: https://www.bing.com/maps?q=Driectio...31927db65968f7 |
We’ll see you all there!

Sugar cookies are freshly made and ready to go!

Thanks. And we will need those for quick energy, since we are all high energy people. To round out some of our our minimum daily requirements, I am bringing some fresh, cut, salad vegatables, with a choice of dresssings. |
sounds like a great time, great group of people, wish I could be there.
Sara, sugar cookies are my favorite--especially soft ones. |

The NYE shoot was a success, with mostly cloudy skies and temps in the mid to upper 40s... maybe 50. We had a fairly good turnout, mixed with the regular Saturday trap shooters. The trap field, modern skeet field, and 5-stand were all open for use.
1 - Our lunchtime spread. Venison Chili by Bill Janelle Salsa and Chips by Bob Weeman Veggies and dressing by Russell Cleary 2 - Sugar cookies by Sara LeFever (orange and green clays :D) 3 - Squad on the modern skeet field. 4 - Scott Kittredge busting a clay. 5 - Bill Janelle taking a shot. |

1 - Frank Cronin showing us how it's done.
2 - Dean Romig lining up the low house. 3 - Did you see that? 4 - Shotgun sports! 5 - Definitely Major Waldron's very own chair. Rumored to be made of Indian scalps. :rotf: |
Thanks to the NH Boys for hosting a great shoot today. Nice to see the familiar faces and meeting new ones. Lots of sweet guns that I got to admire today. Happy New Year and looking forward to seeing you all soon.

It was a nice day for this time of year and it was fun to visit with those who came out. It was also nice to shoot a few rounds of clays. Highlights for the day for me included two servings of Bill J's venison chili, probably one of if not the best chili I have ever had. Next up was a surprise visit well into the day by Frank Cronin. Frank enters the modern skeet field with a 32" 20ga Remington model 17 and started crushing every target. Dean Romig shot his 28ga Skeet gun which is a delight hold and point. Amazingly Russell Cleary decided to sell a very clean 28ga MEC press and a bunch of factory 28ga ammo which last I saw was being loaded into Dean's truck. Both were smiling. Five guys brought out their big 10's and shot a round of trap from the 27 yard line. That round didn't look like it was going to happen, the Pat Trap was stuck in one position and not releasing birds. I saved the day by turning it off and then turning it on, everything is computer now it seems and a reboot can fix it. Russell invited his friend and Maine Grouse Guide, who I believe left the shoot with a 16ga Trojan when it was offered. All in all it was a real good day. Happy 2023!!! I hope we can do it again next year.

Thanks for the great day guys! It was nice to see everyone and meet new friends. And, Yes, Bill’s chili was amazing!
Happy New Year!! |
I couldn't quite get my Star Trek transporter working so I could attend.... Didn't think to just reboot it... :crying:
I certainly would love to make one of these events at some point. |
It was a wonderful event for those who could make thevtrip!
The shooting was fun and the food was good!!… thanks to Bill’s efforts and expertise in making a fab venison chili. It was soo good to get back together with old friends but the pinnacle for me was vusiting with two guys I didn’t expect to see - Allan Swanson and Robin Lewis!! I just don’t get to visit with them often enough! Did I mention Sarah’s sugar cookies were the best… I hope Dorothy got the recipe from Sarah in one of their extended chats… HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY! . |
Thanks to all !
First time for me great time, look forward to next year. |
It was a super get-together. Kind of a sleeper, as for a while there was a note of hesitation in the air about the weather and some reticence on the part of participants to declare their intentions to turn out.
But, muster they did -- new and old faces. A few regulars, however, were missed. Especial thanks to Pete for once again taking a leadership role in pulling the event together; Bill J. for the hot lunch, Sara for the sweets and photos, and Scott for setting up the course. |
