Nice day with Nellie and the 3 frame DHE. Migration has stopped with the recent warm up, few birds in the marsh but many ducks on the Finger Lakes.

Looks like perfection to me.

Very cool, black ducks are a rarity here in MO, I've only been in a blind once when one was taken. Great look'n dog too!

This is wonderful! How do you like the Boss shells through the DHE? I've got a 12GA DH that I have some stinger loads for but didn't know how the pressures would do with the damascus barrels

Craig Larter 11-28-2022 05:50 PM

Joe thanks for your comment about Nellie, she is all muscle and bone pure well conditioned bird dog.
William in my 2 frame Parkers I use 1 1/8oz Boss bismuth but I understand that load was eliminated but I heard from a factory representative it may be reintroduced. Fingers crossed.
Damascus barrels are every bit as strong as vintage Parker steel barrels in my opinion.
Black ducks are a trophy late season kinda like shooting a late season grouse or wild pheasant.

William Parks 11-28-2022 05:54 PM

Understood! I got some of their 1 oz. stinger loads that are a lot of fun to shoot. They are lower volume and lighter but still put a hurt on some ducks. They use a fast burning powder but should be suitable for my DH. Boss did a run of fiber wad shells that supposedly had a much lower pressure rating, last time I called to the shop they said it would be spring 2023 before they could run them again, but I'm hoping to get on their list when they produce them

I managed to get a case of them a couple years ago. Good shells for ducks over decoys, but don't pattern as tight as their plastic shot cup loads. I got patterns in the 68-70% range with them in my Super Fox, and LC Smith 3E pigeon gun.

Craig, to follow up on your original post (and for anyone else looking for a lower pressure modern shell) Boss is releasing these new warchief shells with the attached specs. Looks like a great option for those trying to keep the pressures down:

I have to disagree with your statement about the pressure of these Warchief shells. 10,700 psi is not keeping the pressures down. That's right up there at SAAMI standards for the pressure needed to cycle a dirty, uncared for, semi-jammamatic.

Stan Hillis 07-14-2023 08:13 PM

My 390 and my Super X2 don't either. But I think even you, Harry, would agree that semi(s) jam quite a bit more than two barrel guns. Sorry if you take exception to my tongue-in-cheek nickname for self-loading, semi-automatics.
