Not exactly Parker but have questions
1 Attachment(s)
Hello, I have been reading over your forum for several days now and I have not found all of the answers I am looking for.
The gun that lead me here is not a Parker but rather a Winchester Model 1901 in 10 gauge. These guns have the 2 7/8" chambers. In search for my answers people told me about this page. I am looking for loads that are safe in this gun which is rated for smokeless loads. I would love to find a decent hunting load for duck and geese as well as normal shooting loads. Reading over your thread on 2 7/8 10g shells I found a couple decent normal shooting loads but not much in the way of duck hunting. Maybe I have missed it. I cannot seem to find the PDF of all the load data that is talked about on the mentioned thread. I hope that me posting this does not go against any rules. Thank you for your time, Joe |
lovely gun....an 1 1/4 ounce of bismuth would be a good duck or goose load....some where some one posted this load and hunted with it and done well....maybe someone will come forward with the load....charlie

My 10 ga 2 7/8" guns seems to like 1 3/8oz of bismuth 2s.
|
I load ITX shot in 10 and 12g for ducks and geese.

Y’all using number 4 or 6 or??
Which powders do you prefer ? |
I haven't fired my Winchester Model 01 but it is in my future plans.

My Short Tens love 26 grains of WSF and 1.25oz of bismuth.

Thank you. |
If you can find any my usual bismuth load is 30 grains of SR7625 but be aware IMR/Hodgdon quit selling that powder close to ten years ago now . Anyway I use thirty grains of that with 1 1/4 ounces shot and an SP-10 wad . And a couple red beans as fill . I used to use a 1/8” 16 gauge card under the shot but the red beans are easier quicker and cheaper than the cards .

Very interesting. Never thought of using red beans. Right now I have some green dot, Unique and a few other powders that could be used for shotgun. |
Green Dot and Unique are fine for short tens. Green Dot especially for the light shot loads, Unique for the heavier shot loads. You won't need anything else. I will try to shoot my 01 this weekend, for the first time. I have owned her for maybe ten or fifteen years. If I survive, I will report back.
