Their website says the 50 target events for large bore guns will be on the upper course at the top of the hill. Can anybody confirm that? That course was closed due to fracking at the NE SxS Classic this past June.

The small bore course was ridiculously hard this year, and usually is my favorite.
Unfortunately, have a family vacation planned during that time so will be unable to attend.

I believe the level of difficulty discouraged a fair number of shooters who would have otherwise shot more rounds on it.

Harold Lee Pickens 08-19-2022 09:38 AM

It did that for me! In our group of 6 shooters( some of which have made the Parker team before) 1 target was broken at one station--thats 36 shots with only 1 broken target.

MattHaney 08-19-2022 10:31 AM

I'll pass on the feedback on the difficulty level. We do try to make sure the courses are fun for the Vintage Gunners Cup.

The upper course will require a little re-routing, I am told, due to fracking operations, but it will be in use and remain largely intact. ----Matt

I was told the small bore course in June was set up to be like grouse shots . To each his own with the 20 gauge I barely broke HALF . I was not enthused ! However everyone had to shoot the same targets so it is what it is . I will say the year before on the previous smallbore course I broke 40+ and this newer course that's up above the skeet field it wasn't the same for darn sure .

Any word on where the shoot will be held in 2023?

I assume you mean the June shoot when we went to the banquet ?

Chuck Bishop 08-19-2022 04:56 PM

Craig, look at the title of the thread! The 2023 Vintage Cup.

Bill Murphy 08-19-2022 05:34 PM

Look again.

edgarspencer 08-19-2022 07:57 PM

We were at Addieville today, and there was some mention of hopes it would return there in '23.

No, Chuck means the September VGC.

Mike Koneski 08-19-2022 08:31 PM

Hard or soft targets, the top guns win either way. Softer targets make everyone happy though. Trust me, I’m a doctor.

Thread is 2022 VGC. We’re doing the Fall Southern in ‘23.

I suspect they mean the same course we shot in June for the big guns .

Even if you don't shoot the first target at Back Woods the seafood in Georgetown is darn near worth the trip

I think it also means more rounds shot = more $ spent, better for the club.

No we can’t. I already have grouse hunts booked out of state for October and we need to plan WAY ahead for both of us to go. That is the same time frame the upcoming litter of Setters go to their new homes.

Now you’re diggin where the taters are!!

Mike Koneski 08-20-2022 08:07 PM

Pete, it’s not always about just making them “easy”, that’s very subjective. Targets should be interesting. It’s a fine line we walk with broken glass on one side and rusty razor blades on the other!!

Austin J Hawthorne Jr. 08-21-2022 02:47 PM

I understand that the small bore course was set up to imitate grouse shooting, but in real life I'm sure that six guys taking six shots each would have accounted for more than one bird. I do not need my ego stroked with easy shots, but with that said, Junes small bore course was way more difficult than it needed to be. Just my personal opinion.

Pete Lester 08-26-2022 02:09 PM

This was posted to the Vintager's Facebook page yesterday. They did not mention if shooters will be limited to purchasing a limited number of boxes.

Good News!
I just got off the phone with MR. RST. Looks like they will have shotshells for the Vintage Gunners Cup. Morris Baker of RST said, "Please, no pre-orders - pick up you ammo at the their booth during the event". It doesn't look good for 10 gauge and 12 gauge 2 inch shells, but everything else will be there. A great time to pick up those hunting loads for this fall too. Hope to see all our shooting friends on 14-17 September for the Vintage Gunners Cup.

Mills Morrison 08-26-2022 02:56 PM

That is good news! And with some luck, 16 will be available for online order after the event. RST 16 is my greatest need right now.
