I was at Prospect Hall yesterday and happened to notice something for sale . A AH Fox HE 30” with 3” chambers . So it followed me home . Guns been reblued restocked and when restocked changed to a straight grip with skeleton buttplate added and an ebony forend inlay . With my micrometer gauges it measures .040”+ in both barrels .

What, no water table picture Craig?

The famous Don Kaas HE. It was nice to visit with Craig, Kevin, and Jim Hall yesterday.

keavin nelson 08-14-2022 08:59 AM

Nice find Craig! What's not to like about that one!

Mike Koneski 08-14-2022 12:06 PM

DO NOT GO OVER TO THE DARK SIDE!!! :nono: :corn: If you were to procure a Fox, at least it is an HE. Good choice.

charlie cleveland 08-14-2022 02:04 PM

Kaas sold it to a fellow that’s no longer with us and it’s my understanding the widow of that fellow is slowly letting them go .

Think that makes four now ! Would be seven if I had the three I’ve let go :rotf:

Craig, I'm not real knowledgeable on the Fox guns and am wondering about the mark on the barrel flats "Barrels not guaranteed See tag".
Any ideas?

I was told by several Fox collectors far more astute than myself that three inch guns had that so Fox would not be held accountable for them to pattern I think 70 or 80 percent at I believe it was 40 yards . Supposedly that was something to do with Nash Burt Becker and Bo-Whoop .

CraigThompson 08-16-2022 07:30 PM

My friend was in with his gauge today and he was within .002” of my readings . So it is .045 and .055 ! I’m at the gun club now and just finished shooting a regular round of skeet and a doubles round of skeet from 3 , 4 and 5 . The chokes in that gun make doubles skeet from the middle a lot easier

Craig Larter 08-16-2022 07:41 PM

I have measured 30 plus Super Foxes. They have all measured. 049/.050.

charlie cleveland 08-16-2022 10:51 PM

that's some fine chokes ive never had a gun with that tight of chokes....maybe I need a fox.....charlie

The old Remington Model 32TC I got a couple weeks ago has in excess of .045 in both barrels also . There’s THREE things wrong with Fox ! #1 they didn’t make an 8 gauge , #2 they didn’t make a 10 gauge and #3 they didn’t make a 28 gauge .

Dean Romig 08-17-2022 05:42 AM

Craig, I couldn’t agree more strongly about your opinion regarding the 28 gauge! What an awesome little Fox that would be in any grade!
I’m not a big bore fan so much but I know there plenty of others who would also agree with you on the 10 and the 8.

John Dallas 08-17-2022 08:56 AM

My 12 Sterlingworth is .044 in each barrels

Daryl Corona 08-17-2022 12:08 PM

Well you can get a 28 Fox from CSMC but that's way above my pay grade. I'm happy with the Parker and the Perazzi 28's. They'll do for now.:)

Yes sir your little Perazzi is a nice feeling gun as well .

I'd like to try a K-20 28 gauge with 30 or 32 inch barrels sometime .

I have and the Perazzi feels better to me. Just like the OO frame 28 it's just feels better between the hands. Your mileage may vary.

Richard Flanders 08-17-2022 11:21 PM

My hunting friend Trigg Davis has(had?)a Piotti 28ga that was absolutely to die for. Uber quality gun I'd love to have had.

Bill Murphy 08-18-2022 09:34 AM

Daryl, I have an order sheet for the CSMC 28 gauge. The C Grade is $5650 plus a small surcharge for the 28. Is this above your pay grade? Should I forward that order sheet to you?

Dean Romig 08-18-2022 09:40 AM

Bill, does it say in tiny print "We reserve the right to change prices at our discretion."? What year is it from?

.

Daryl Corona 08-18-2022 09:55 AM

What Dean said. Plus.... it ain't a real Fox.

Bill Murphy 08-18-2022 11:57 AM

Dean, I believe it is Tony's first price list for the CSMC Foxes.

I was in hopes of having a 1 3/8 ounce charge bar and I didn’t so I loaded some for the HE today in 3” hulls using 1 1/2 ounces of shot pushed by 39 grains of Blue Dot . Some with SP-12 wads and some with WAA12F114 wads . Shot one of each in the snail at the shop in an 870 Express and it all looks good and recoil wasn’t excessive . I’m quite sure the weight of the HE will make them even more pleasent .

charlie cleveland 08-18-2022 08:02 PM

looks good to me very nice crimps.....charlie

The 1 3/8 box is about 2/3’s full while the 1 5/8 box is full . Someone gave me those two boxes .

Ed Blake 08-21-2022 07:39 AM

If that was Don Kass’ gun it’s been restocked for a lefty. How does it come up? Nice find. Don was an interesting member of the board; I hope he is doing well.

CraigThompson 08-21-2022 01:32 PM

Ed the gun feels okay to me and I’ve shot it decently for a start . Patton looked at it and says it’s cast slightly for a lefty .

Was out checking the sight in on my 6mm-06 and 260 today so thought I’d try the HE with WIN factory #1 3” and 00 3” at 25 yards . We have an early antlerless season that starts this Saturday . 00 first right barrel then left followed by #1 right then left .

Other stuff I was shooting today . 260 in the rest , 6mm-06 on the table . Then pics of the TC 357 MAX and the TC 6.5 TCU .

CraigThompson 08-29-2022 05:17 PM

Normally wouldn’t be doing this at home off a card table , but the power company is doing something at the club blah blah blah so I didn’t feel like dealing with all that crap .

"cast slightly for a lefty" It'll never work for you. I know a lefty you should sell it to.:whistle::bigbye:

CraigThompson 08-29-2022 05:47 PM

As tight as HE’s seem to be I was surprised it did as well as it did with 00 . The #1 I kind thought would be pretty decent . Looks like the HE and the 6mm-06 will be first choice for Saturday .

I’ve owned that gun a little over two weeks and you’re the third person that’s made a comment along those lines
