Gift for a friend
While I am posting pictures I thought I would share a gift I had made for my hunting partner. I went to a local saddle shop I had used for years and asked if he could make a 8 box shotshell leather case. Brian went and pulled an old catalog and asked " Like this". It seems his father and the two sons made these for Ambercombie and Fitch. Brian said he would look for the old forming blocks and patterns and would give me a call. A few days later he let me know he had located everything in a storage shed and could make me a case. Took a few months as it is amostly hand stiched, and hand tooled, but it was worth the wait.:) I recieved it the other day and am very pleased. Not everyday a person can get an original case made long after production. Just wanted to share. Now I will need to have one made for myself. He has a pigeon pattern that is excellent.

Listed below is the name of the company. This company produces quality goods in leather which is a dying art. Stepping into their shop is a step back in time. The two sons still run the shop, I would guess they are in their late to mid 60's. They work out of a small building beside their home that looks like to may have been built in the 30's. They still build hand tooled saddles and tack. and wonderful belt's with silver and tooled designs or just plain all American quality items.. I had a belt made several years ago, just a plain belt with a real solid brass buckle, after going through a number of hunting belts. The belt will outlast me. I asked Brian if they had anyone to take over the shop some day. He said no one wants to learn the old ways and most people woud rather buy imported goods. Of course those items don't last but are less expensive. If anyone is ever down this way in Tucson, a trip to the shop is worth it. In a few years all of these shops accross the country will all be gone.

A friend has a snap handle four box shell holder marked Abercrombie and Fitch. I always wondered where that stuff came from. I am feeling the need for a border stamped eight box holder in dark finish with the pigeon.

I'd say this posting will generate a couple orders for those old boys. Wow!

I can take some pictures of the pigeon. In fact I will take some pictures of the shop while I am there. I will be going down there this week as I am wanting to get a leather lace on pad to extend a short stocked gun, when I was there picking up the case Brian had just finished one up for a guy. It was absolutly a work of art even though it was plain leather.

How about a picture of the butt cover? The Brauer Brothers butt covers have recently become unavailable.
|
Bill I will see if Brian has a picture. If not I will be having one made and will take a picture when I recieve it. These guys do not make much for stock. kind of make it as you order. The one Brian had just finished, he had the buttstock and reciever and custom fit the leather to it. I am sure that give a tracing he could make one that fits perfect with out the stock.

Thanks, Phil.

Murphy, Here is the A&F 4 box case that was a gift to me some time ago. David. |
Pigeon turned out poor wouldn't you know. Just a few pictures of the shop. The Silver saddle and tack had $10,000 dollars worth of Concho's 25 years ago. Old man that bought it is in a care home now so just like some of our Parkers it will be on to the next caretaker.
