Help with Parker gun ID's
I need help and any info on a parker brothers shotgun i have. its very old. the date stamped on the barrles is Nov. 13, 1866. I do know that is a 'stub twist' barrel gun. Frame size is a 5 i believe and Grade is a 2(?). Not sure of serial number as what i do have i cant get any info on. If any one can help, please feel free to call me personally. (570)418-1090 is my cell phone and its always on.
Thanks, Kurt Hess |
Kurt, please try and give us your serial number I can look it up and tell you how it left Parker. It sounds like you have a large frame 10 ga. or a 8 ga. with that 5 frame. On the barrel flats there should be barrel weight 4 14 , 4lbs. 14oz. Bob

Hi Kurt!
First - Howdy and Welcome! Second - I'm going to move your post to the Main Discussion Forum, OK? It will get a lot more view in that area of the site rather then this forum.. Again - Welcome! John |
from what i get off the barrels is a "t 4507" i dont know if this is the serial but that is all i see. Hope this helps...

4507 is listed as a 12 ga. grade 2 under lifter with 30" twist barrels no options. If your able please post a few pictures.

this only has 28" barrels and its either a 8 or 10 ga i do know. Frame size is 5 and grade is maybe 2. The words stub twist is printed right on the barrels. I guess i need more idea's of where to look and what to look for as the gun is not in my possition right now. But i can get pics tommorrow to see if you can help.

If it is a 5 frame it is probably a 10ga but could be a really heavy 12 or a light 8 bore. If it is a grade 2 it should have damascus bbls not stub twist. The number you found may be the order number. Look for a number on the water table of the action, on the forend iron or trigger guard, that will be the serial number. Post some pictures if you can. SN4507 would be a really early lifter and may even be a back action gun
SN14590 is from the other post and it isn't in the book. mfg about 1879, we need pictures... Good luck, kurt |
Stub Twist is a early form of Damascus which the stubs of horse shoes and nails that had been worked on the anvil were used as the steel, Damascus being a combination of steel and iron. Least that is what I remember reading about it.

the book lists:
SN5263 as a PS (low grade with plain steel), lifter, 12ga 30" bbls, circa 1875 mfg SN4507 as a T2 (grade 2 gun with twist steel bbls), lifter, 12ga 30" bbls, circa 1875 mfg Are they both shootable?? |
yes i believe they are both Very shootable, but i would never shot them. But thats me. The barrels on both guns are in perfect working order, no pitting, no rust AT ALL. Just to old for me to ever wanna shot. And they both are still for sale. Please make an offer.
