checkering on beavertail forend

Where can I view a picture of the checkering on a V grade forend? Or, if anyone has one please post a picture.

Robin Lewis 02-21-2011 06:16 PM

On the Parker Grades page there is one under the Top Lever link. I think it is the same as the hammerless guns (Right guys?). If someone has a picture of a VH forend they could share, I'll post it in the Parker Grades section. Just send it to me.

Robin; here is a late VHE, that appears to have original checking and finish. I'll try a VHE trap fore end in a few minutes.

170789 Fore End

Here is the fore end from the 32 inch VHE live bird gun I shot at the New Year Shoot. It is relatively early for a trap fore end, but it has the proper iron, and the inside is machine inletted to match other Parker fore ends. It appears they may have made two distinct patterns of trap fore ends, but they do not seem to be differentiated on orders.

Hi Tom,

Both my VHE beavertails patterns are similar to Patrick's and Dave's. If you want me to post pics of them, I will (one of mine is a 20GA and the other a .410).

John

Dave Suponski 02-21-2011 09:24 PM

John, Could you send me that .410 for closer examination?....

John Dunkle 02-21-2011 09:25 PM

Let me think about it for a bit, OK?

Thanks! I posted those to the Grades page. Nice work!

Dave Suponski 02-21-2011 09:45 PM

Oh well.....Can't fault a guy for tryin......

Thanks Robin! Good job!

Austin, that one's checkering pattern appears to be pre- the standard we normally see. Does that forend predate the reinforcing rod?

Dean Romig 02-21-2011 09:49 PM

Dave, John has pretty high standards against loaning out borrowed guns....

Dave Suponski 02-21-2011 09:56 PM

Ya you're right .....Foolish me...I wonder who he borrowed that one from.

John Dunkle 02-21-2011 10:04 PM

The previous owner..???

Kidding aside John, that is one sweet VHE Skeet Gun with all the attributes I would look for.

BTFE

At the time I acquired it I thought it was custom. It does have the proper iron and reinforcing screw, and the inside has the same machine inletting as other Parker fore ends. I have seen it pictured in either a catalog or TPS. I have seen perhaps a half dozen more like it. There also some very short btfe 's of that pattern that have been pictured here.

I knew I had seen it; it is in the 1923 pocket catalog and perhaps some others.
