Hey yall! So I'm a new member this year, I know somewhat about the parker shotguns but there's alot I don't know! But I want too learn everything I can my grandfather was a parker enthusiast! Unfortunately he passed when I was young, I recently started cleaning his house and stumbled upon a bh 12 Damascus that nobody knew about! But unfortunately the barrels has bad rust damage, what's the best way too get the rust off? I will post pictures soon

Stephen Stanley 03-24-2022 09:28 PM

It was a great find just wish it was in better shape tho!

Stephen Stanley 03-24-2022 09:36 PM

By the serial number it's 1893

Breck Gorman 03-24-2022 09:37 PM

Wow. I only find dirt when I clean the house. Your grandfather had excellent taste. Congratulations to you!

Contact the guy who posted right above me. You will not be sorry.

Neat gun, it appears the barrels are now steel? A letter would be interesting to see if they were a factory replacement.

Brian Dudley 03-25-2022 06:28 AM

The gun appears to be a well used and neglected, but overall unmolested example. It is in a great configuration. The whole gun I am sure could benefit from a cleaning and freshening up. At very least, the rust on the barrels can be removed and neutralized with oil and a frontier pad. Anything more than that would require complete refinishing.

They appear to be fluid steel Craig yet the under rib in the last pic is damascus.

Brian Dudley 03-25-2022 07:10 AM

Yes Randy, the pattern is hard to see, but it is there. And a gun that early would be likely be damascus.

Dean Romig 03-25-2022 08:12 AM

It is Damascus. In the fourth picture on the lower tube near the rib you can clearly see one star of the Damascus pattern. I was thinking a BH with composite barrels might have been Bernard but it it Damascus for sure.

Another recommendation for Breck Gorman

Joseph Sheerin 03-25-2022 09:11 AM

I will also Recommend Breck.... Very cool find!

Frontier 45 pad and oil slow and easy and you will be surprised. It will do no harm and will still be original. How are the bores?

Reggie Bishop 03-25-2022 10:07 AM

Welcome to the PGCA! I like your grandfather's Parker! Grade 5 guns are one of my favorites.

Also can anyone tell me what grade my vh 20 has been upgraded too?

Mills Morrison 03-25-2022 12:33 PM

That looks like a grade made up by the engraver that did the work.

I bought a BH last year that was in rough condition too, but it cleaned up nicely. You would be amazed what a good cleaning will do.

It is not an “upgrade”. It does not accurately emulate any specific grade of Parker gun. The engraving is a somewhat amateurish attempt at a custom gun. Too bad the quality of the engraving does not match that of the wood work. The wood looks decent.

Stephen Stanley 03-25-2022 02:17 PM

That what I could gather just making sure I wasn't wrong

Here is some more pictures of the bh

Brian Dudley 03-25-2022 09:38 PM

The engraving of the 7-8 strutting turnips on the bottom is a bit different for a B grade.
