South Carolina Quail

Anyone have any good suggestions for a one day quail hunt near Beaufort SC?

Headed that way on Friday, and was thinking about trying to do this.

I know it's late notice, but I thought I had something locked down via a friend, and it fell trough.

Thanks!

You may want to try Rick Hemingway in Hemingway, SC. Great guy. The name of his club is Backwoods Quail Club. 1-843-546-1466.

Good people and early release. Most everywhere else will be a put birds out the day of kick and shoot.

Almost Heaven

I have hunted at Almost Heaven for the past three seasons.
It is a first class operation, with realistic bird presentation.

If the hunting does not work out, you might try fishing. Beaufort is a great place for inshore and offshore. Not sure which guide to recommend though

Was thinking about that, Almost Heaven plantation, never returned any of my calls, so I guess they are off the list....

Well, the Quail hunt never worked out, as they never returned any of my calls.

So, booked a morning of chasing redfish. Ended up catching some eater size, and 4 fish over 26" including this nicely spotted one.

It was too hot to hunt anyway!:)

Nice one! Yes, now is a good time to fish around here. I hang up bird hunting at the end of February.

Were you fly fishing? If so, what weight line were you using? Nice red!

No, we started out tryin to spot fish and topwater, and jigs.... They were not having anything to do with it, so we "cheated" and used minnows.

I didn't pack my fly rods... But, would like to try that some day. I had tweaked my back on Monday night, so it was all I could do to just be in the boat that day.

It really was, but the morning on the water was gorgeous.

Backwoods QC is more in line with my budget. (Almost Heaven is $2K per gun per day).

Has anyone shot the preserve birds at Backwoods?

Decent birds?
Good guides?

I will be in the neighborhood during the first week of December.

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

My wife has hunted Backwoods before and enjoyed it.

Terry Smith 10-18-2024 05:36 PM

You might want to try Robert's Shooting Preserve in Guyton, GA.
About one hour west of Beaufort, SC.
$475 per half day per gun, includes lunch and 40 birds.
I hunted there last year and the birds may be recently placed, but they didn't have to be kicked in order to flush.
I does tend to be more single bird shooting than multi bird coveys
