Stock Blank Sets

Here are a few photos of three stock blank sets that made it here from the Vegas show. One will be used to restock the 20g lifter. Not sure which one yet but I'll have to compare/contrast with the lifter when it arrives.

All the blank sets came from Mike Mann in Oregon. He has some nice product and very reasonably priced.

Very nice selections

That second one might have voids in it. That would be disasterous.

Very nice Mike,
hopefully your head will be that big from all the compliments and I'll have a chance to slip in the backdoor:whistle:

I like the bottom one for sure .

allen newell 02-03-2022 06:57 PM

I like the last 2 blanks

BWAHAHAHA!!! Game on Stan!

I like the first one best. Second blank has some awesome figure. Best thing is all three are very straight through the wrist.

Then it might not. If it does it’ll have a thumbhole stock.

The middle blank with the patches of burl in it is very neat. It would not be suitable for a typical SxS. But would be killer for a drawbolt stock or for a pump or auto.

The purveyor of those blanks was a very knowledgeable gentleman and a real pleasure to talk to and learn from. When it comes to his blanks he did it from start to finish. He cut the tree, he cut the blank. He had some very nice stuff at very reasonable prices in my opinion. Unfortunately for our community he's prepping for retirement. Sounds like Mtn. Man has a few projects in the future eh ...

When have I been known to be typical? :rotf::whistle:

I like the top one the best. It appears to me to be English walnut. The other two I'm guessing black or I think they may call it Royal out there.

Louis Rotelli 02-04-2022 10:10 AM

Id be honored to take a chisel to any one of those stock if you'd let me

Mike Koneski 02-04-2022 10:47 AM

All three were hybrids, American black walnut root stock and English walnut grafted to it.

I pick #1 for your little 20 gauge gun.

Bruce Hering 02-04-2022 07:27 PM

I like the first one and the last one. That last one has some sweet chocolate color to it....

Problem is that blank isn't even close to what's on the gun now and I'd have to do the fore-end too if I chose that blank.

Sounds like 3 is the winner I'm guessing.

Mike Koneski 02-05-2022 03:09 PM

Tom, you would be correct.

I picked up a few blanks as well Mike

Brian Dudley 02-07-2022 10:54 PM

That one is VERY nice Brian.

Mike Koneski 02-08-2022 08:12 AM

Very nice Brian! Looks like you have quite a few more judging by the photo!

I picked 4 all qtr sawn and similar in grain. For guns I have not met yet, like a country song.

Mike Koneski 02-08-2022 09:05 AM

I figured I would use one on the hammer gun then also have two for "future projects". :)
