8ga Grade 1 Laminate at small auction

I have no interest in this gun but thought someone here may.

Arthur Shaffer 01-26-2022 10:38 AM

No mention of barrel steel on rib. Also, I looked up the auction and they had good looking 8 ga 3-1/4" Ballard brass cases for sale.

Just wondering if you did have an interest in this gun would you have still posted this link? Yes, I know we all try to be helpful but sometimes it invites more competition then normal, or should I say unwanted competition . AND ! Hows it go " Nothing personal pal" and I mean that.

Craig Larter 01-26-2022 12:01 PM

Steve just trying to be helpful pal, that's my nature. If I had a personal interest in the gun of course I would not post a link, but if someone else did so be it no big deal.

The L stamped on the right barrel flat tells us it's Laminated Steel but too late to be Parker-made Laminated.

I just was surprised there was no designation on the top rib. Was that normal with the 8 gauge?

Dean Romig 01-26-2022 01:18 PM

i’m not. I’ve seen a LOT of Lifters and early TA hammer guns with no barrel steel on the top rib.

Keith Sirmans 01-26-2022 02:13 PM

Thanks Craig!

CraigThompson 01-28-2022 12:41 AM

I’ve got a couple of the twist 8 hammer guns one from the 1880’s the other is post 1900 and to be honest I don’t remmember if either has twist on the rib .

Keith Sirmans 01-28-2022 01:09 PM

I spoke with the owner of the gun. Shells are probably going with the gun in auction. 36" barrels. He is not a gun guy and does not know the chokes. I am getting more pictures if anyone wants to see them. It has been in the same family since new until he bought it 5-6yrs ago. He spoke with RI and they gave him a price range of 7-10k so that is where he is wanting to start at with it.

David Holes 01-28-2022 02:42 PM

Thanks for the info, I thought about going, but undecided. I thought 5k might buy it.

Keith Sirmans 01-28-2022 03:00 PM

It may. No clue who is watching/calling in.

Craig Larter 01-28-2022 03:03 PM

You guys getting more pictures if you could e-mail them to me would appreciate it. I keep a file of all the Parker 8's I encounter. Good luck if you plan to bid. Craig

If it starts at 7k I’m out right off the bat . When I called the auction house I failed to ask if it had a reserve , that pretty much answers that question . The auction house told me the shells would be sold right after the gun . They offered to give me the owners phone number but I didn’t wanna call and bother the guy . In the serialization book the guns shown as a lifter not a top lever gun .

Craig Larter 01-28-2022 05:29 PM

Its a 5K-6K gun in my opinion.

Bill Murphy 01-28-2022 06:01 PM

I can't see any clue about how to see what is being offered in this auction or how to bid. Manhattan Kansas isn't exactly in the wilderness, but they sure don't know how to advertise an auction. Do we have to call them on the phone? Help me here.

I always follow a basic caveat - deal with PRINCIPLES ONLY! Call them up; you wouldn't fret and wring your knickers over buying a bird dog or a Purdey pigeon gun, would you? No, you would get them on the phone as a live human. Then the BS disappears and "all things shineth." God I'm glad I'm not into 8 gauges!! (Although I would like to find that CH that was sent to DuPont Ballistic Laboratories in late 1918!!). See you Sunday!

David Holes 01-28-2022 09:02 PM

IMHO 7k is to steep for me, quality pictures won't help, the gun was obviously used a lot by the condition its in. Homely guns sit in the corner while pretty guns get the attention.

Keith Sirmans 01-28-2022 09:12 PM

I think that is high as well. He is going off of what Rock Island told him it would bring. As far as the auction itself goes its a phone auction.

I was thinking 5k tops . And that’s with the 10% buyers add on .

Bill Murphy 01-29-2022 12:58 AM

If you know it's a 10% buyer's premium, you know more than I got from the auction ad.

Milton C Starr 01-29-2022 04:50 AM

Speaking of the 8 gauge brass shells did anyone pickup that box of UMC 8 gauge brass hulls on GB the other day?

Joel Hackett 01-29-2022 03:56 PM

I listened in and the last I heard the bid was 5,600.00, did it end up going any higher?

Right in the website on the auction ad it says a 10% buyer's premium.

From some shooting I've seen I think the barrels/ribs were not just made with twist but actually twisted!! :rotf::rotf:

Craig Larter 01-29-2022 05:13 PM

I'm happy for the buyer and seller seems like a fair price for all involved. I hope the new buyer is a PGCA member and a future participant in 8 gauge shooting events. It would be neat if the Vintagers and Hausman's followed Mike K's Rock Mtn. with a 8ga side event. 8's are really a hoot to shoot!

Mike Koneski 01-29-2022 05:24 PM

When I grow up I want an 8 bore gun!! I’ve been a good boy.

Craig Larter 01-29-2022 05:47 PM

Mike just write the check, guaranteed you will smile from ear to ear every time you pull the trigger on a 8.

I wanted one for about twenty years . Got the first one not quite two years ago and they multiplied . I “want” a 410 but if I don’t run up on a smoking deal I doubt that ever happens . I’m in the midst of an upgraded K-80 deal at the moment I’ll just content myself with that . Oh btw if you wanna try it anywhere they do an 8 gauge thing just let me know and we’ll make it happen !

We did at Hausemanns last year . But I’d rather do a different thing than what’s it called Mad Catfish :bigbye:

CraigThompson 01-29-2022 06:02 PM

Incidentally I shot 1 3/4 ounce at Hausemanns and The Rock . Think this year I’ll back up regroup and go back to the 1 1/2 ounce load . I’d run out of Clays for 1 1/2 so changed to 1 3/4 with Universal Clays . Supposedly someone bringing me four pounds of Clays so I gotta be set for atleast three years shooting .

I’m quite intrested to see what the one at Rock Island brings . With probable 40” barrels that one intrests me . Not sure why it intrests me but it does . Anyway if this one today brought $5800 or so plus 10% the Rock Island one of it letters with Damascus barrels oughtta bring a good bit more I would think .

One day it’ll happen. Those big 8s are fun. Maybe next Vegas trip?

I ordered 100 of the unprimed REM hulls from this guy over a year ago . His price is high but they got to me quick . At the time I was worried about Armbrust’s order with WIN panning out , I think that hundred is still in a box unused . I’ve in the mean time picked up more here there and yonder .

Hes got 500 of the primed ones left, he did have hundreds of the unprimed Remingtons and Winchester but someone about cleared them out recently. There were 1200 all together about 2 weeks or so back. I think he must have a connection, I asked him about some other industrial hulls that he told me had been discontinued I couldnt find information on anywhere else. I asked if he had a source for any wads he said no only hulls.
