Sleeved with Damascus chambers

Wasn’t sure but thought I’d throw this out there, the sleeve job is amazing.
Who would I go to to have the Damascus chambers browned?

Not sure what you are asking Sorry

Rick Riddell 01-03-2022 04:19 PM

Hoping to find out who I might contact regarding getting the chambers browned

Steve Huffman 01-03-2022 04:52 PM

Just the chambers or the complete barrel set ? Maybe Im not thinking clearly wouldnt be the first time .Chambers would be damascus and barrels steel now so you want a two tone ?

Aaron Beck 01-03-2022 04:55 PM

So etch and finish the chambers and ribs like damascus but keep the barrel black or brown?
I would assume a damascus guy like Mr Gorman would be a good starting point but that sounds tricky too me. What gauge gun?

Bill Murphy 01-03-2022 04:55 PM

Nothing unusual about the project. Breck Gorman.

Milton C Starr 01-03-2022 05:22 PM

I think perhaps he is asking for something like this ?

Steve Huffman 01-03-2022 05:28 PM

Glad I got to see that , not for me .

I seen one even stranger recently, someone had managed to get a set of never used damascus tubes so they had them sleeved into a modern steel barreled gun.

I refinished a sleeved MacNaughten last year. Customer wanted black and white though. I can do Brown and White. It’s difficult though when you want the tubes blacked though.

Hard to say from your photo, but your rib joint doesn’t look good.

Bill Murphy 01-03-2022 05:59 PM

My Bayard, from Liege, Belgium, is a wonderful example of Damascus to fluid steel sleeving. I'm sure there are other European makers who used this system.

The joint is solid, looks off in the picture, but yes, browned chambers. They could have removed a little more solder from the joint, but it’s solid and rings nicely.

My Bayard has fluid steel chambers and Damascus tubes. Very elegant, like the pictured examples.

Rick Riddell 01-04-2022 09:45 AM

There are some really stunning examples out there, I think it looks good on a foreign gun.

Chamber and muzzle treatment

From an auction catalog. As I recall, John Foster did the work.

To each his own, but that makes my eyes hurt.

Bill Murphy 01-05-2022 09:52 AM

Daryl, what is the make of the pictured gun?

Daryl Hallquist 01-05-2022 10:26 AM

breech and muzzle sleeving

The pictures were taken a long time ago in a British auction catalog. I think the gun was British, but cannot remember what maker. Judging from the bit of engraving shown, it must have been a top of the line gun.

Milton C Starr 01-05-2022 06:51 PM

A John Gibbs did similar work, not the worst thing I have seen that would go to a set of damascus barrels where someone had the muzzles engraved. To me the engraving over the damascus looked too "busy" or confusing.
