As can be seen in the photos, the vent rib on my SC has separated near the breach end. It had a screw with a slotted head that was lost while shooting. This was obviously an after market fix. Any suggestions on the easiest fix now? JBWeld?

John, why not do it right?

Mine had a similar issue and now has a poor repair. I can live with it as is for the moment, but I agree with Dean that any repair should be done right.

Doing it the right way costs less in the long run anyway.

Time is the issue. But I guess I'm just going to have to bite the bullet.

Breck Gorman is now in Beaufort. Obviously, I can't speak for him now, but his turnaround time was fast by gun standards. He might be able to help

I sent it the fore arm off for repair. And the SB was out of commission for a while. I'll just have to do the same with the SC barrel.

Good excuse to buy another one while you wait

Like I need another excuse.

Clean the screw hole with alcohol, install a new screw with blue loctite on the threads. Thats likely what a gunsmith would do.

I would suspect it could have been easily resoldered with a high temp solder when it hapened. It still could except now the hole needs to be filled.

You might get lucky. The hole for the screw head looks like someone may have used a scope mount or ring screw from a rifle for repair. If you can scrounge up some 6x48, 8x32, 8x40 etc screws and try them one of them may happen to fit. Worst case is that brownells sells packs of them at a reasonable price you could buy to try. Some big sporting goods stores that mount scopes have a box of extras laying around.

The repair looks like it would be pretty unnoticeable with the screw in place. If you find a screw, install it with a touch of low temperature LocTite and it would hold you for a while until you have time to have it properly addressed.

John I have fixed several of these in the past leaving the repair all but un-noticable
