First Wood Duck
My son got his first wood duck yesterday. He shot ducks of other species but this is the first wood duck. They flew well and it was a great morning. He shot my Fox BE 12 gauge with 28” barrels. I shot my HE Super Fox finally fixed by Dan May (5 trips to other master gunsmiths prior)

Congrats to Harry. He is ahead of me. I've never shot a Canvasback or Blue Wing Teal either.

Very nice. I remember my son's first duck like it happened yesterday, we often giggle about the day. I was jumping up and down shouting high fives. My son turned to me and said calm down dad. Congratulations Harry and Mills.

This recalls great memories, and some humorous ones. A good friend from Charleston told me about his first duck hunt with his Dad. They were kneeling down on a pond dam that the ducks were known to pass over. Dad tells Gess to stay down until he says get up and shoot, and that when he did the ducks would be right in front of him. When this happened, on cue, Gess stood up and a greenwing teal hit him dead on in the chest, knocking him backwards. He said it hurt like heck, and scared the crap out of him!
