Remembering our first Setter
1 Attachment(s)
I was thinking of our boy today and came across this photo. Deacon Blue was a great dog and spoiled us for all the Setters to follow. So glad we had a good 10 1/2 years with him. He taught us so much and he was my constant companion. And yes, his name was inspired by the Steely Dan tune.

Mike, wonderful looking dog. Wonderful tune! Incredible band!! A bucket list item I never got to.
|
Fortunately we had the dog and saw the band play the song live. :)

Leaving all that aside...... Ya never forget your first one!
Funny how you never hear, "I had a Setter once but switched to a _________." |
Beautiful setter, Mike. Looks like an Osthaus dog.
|
My first setter was in 1948, when I was two years old. She was an Irish out of Milson O'Boy as I recall. I still have her papers, but not handy. My dad raised one litter and we kept one male from the litter. He was the first dog I hunted over, until I was in college.

Jon, now you’re digging where the taters are!!

Mike,
Jon's just pulling my chain (he's my baby brother by 12 yrs.) and my first setter (Irish) helped raise him. I have french brittanys now (more room on the bed), but I'm still a setter man, too. I've been telling him, that on one of his rare trips down from Maine, I want to being him to The Mountain, to meet you and Sam and your setters. I know you'll get on well, Jon's a real dog-man. |
Well Hal, your brother will definitely get his Setter fix!!
|
I'm chasing 2- 3 month olds and their mother around now. Doesn't that qualify as a fix?
|
Yes it does!! :rotf:
