Repro Serial #'s

Does anyone have any idea on how many of the " Prototype Repro. " guns were built ? I have read some where there were around 150, " P Serialed 20 Ga. " guns ,but recently ,I have seen a 20 Ga. Repro. " Serial # P- 424 " , I find it hard to imagine that Mr. Skeuse ,built and gave away that many guns ? Any thoughts on this high numbered 20 Ga. ? Thanks ; Russ

I am not convinced of the common explanations given about the P guns. Has anyone gotten an explanation from Mr. Skeuse? Prototypes? Gifts? Family guns? It seems like a lot of guns for any of those reasons. Could it have been their designated prefix under the Gun Control Act of 1968 which Skeuse got excused from shortly after starting production? It seems like other companies were forced to use prefixes. Why not Skeuse? Winchester used "W". Why wouldn't Skeuse have chosen "P" for Parker, if he had a choice? Maybe ATF excused him from the use of a prefix since his production was so limited.

Bill,
I have a 20/16 Set #P-405. I thought these sets were of later production which would not support your idea of early production using P until excused.

The 20-16 sets were made up from existing guns, not neccesarily guns made at the time of the 20-16 introduction.

Parker Repros

Hi Guys, The "P" on the serial number was for Prototype. The first P numbered gun was # P 0026. I do not know how many were built as I was not that involved with them at that time. My father did not "give them away" as gifts etc. If you wanted one you ordered it just like anyone else, and you payed for it like anyone else. Hope that helps some.

Hello Richard and many Thanks for the explanation of the " P Serialed " guns ! I have read these gun were given as Gifts to Family members and close Friends ,this is why I commented on this idea . Do you happen to know if the P was used whenever a change in production took place as with gauge or different chokes etc. ? Russ

Russ the P was only used on the first couple of orders of 20 Ga guns. It was not used after that. Only on 20's and nothing else. Thanks

My friend just purchased a Repro on the net and when it arrived it was P-0027 so it looks like it was the second P gun produced. Great information Richard, thanks.

Richard, do you know the story behind P - 0026? I mean, why is the first prototype number 26? What about the guns that I assume preceded P - 0026; or were they just parts and never finished guns or .....?
