Excluding my 28 ga. Repros I would say my 16 ga. 0-frame top lever hammer gun with 28" barrels is right up there at the top.
|
hmmm, i think my EH 2 frame 10 ga at 8 3/4 lbs with 30 in. barrels and choked .025 in each barrel , death on crows and ducks O and on trap. :)

I am too indecisive on which one is my favorite, I use several, sell none and keep buying more. Hello my name is Pete and I have a problem, it all started in 1984 when I bought my first Parker........................:)

A PHE ---28 bore ---with original 24 "barrels ---of which I had Herb Stratameyer open to IC/IC from the factory M/F---the gun is deadly on woodcock and grouse and a Remington 700 bolt .338 Win Mag for boar and elk .

Excellent Pete!!! My favorit is Charlies short barrled 8. Someday...................
|
The gun I shoot the best ,is my PH 20 Ga. with 28" Barrels ,and it is a joy to carry at an even 6 lbs , but the gun I enjoy carrying the most is my DH grade, 28 Ga. with original factory, 25" Barrels .I only take her out on beautiful sunny Fall days and I don't really get much shooting in when I carry it ,I am always day dreaming and admiring the gun and thinking how fortunate I am to have the privilege to be her care giver ,at least for a while ! I only have one so it is an easy question. My GH model 12 gauge with 30 inch barrels.
|
Papa's 20 gauge Trojan is my favorite Parker. I would have to put Uncle Bill's 16 gauge VH that we think he received in 1927 as a graduation present from Washington and Lee as my next favorite. Uncle Taylor's 10 gauge lifter falls right in there with the previous two. I spent a lot of time in the field with Papa, Bill and their Parkers, but not with Taylor and the 10 gauge. It is still one of my go to guns. I have to throw a 28 gauge VH into the mix as MY Parker. I can't remember who coined the phrase, but the little 28 handles "like Tinker Bell's wand".

A 28ga I never saw that was a gift to my father from his older brother is what piqued my interest in these guns. My favorite to shoot, however, is the reproduction 12 ga below because I shoot it very well. It is the only double gun, or gun period, that I have ever used to make a tripple. The birds were gadwall, one with the first barrel two with the second. Mostly luck but perhaps we all shoot better with Parkers, repro or original.
Feeble attempts at sill life by yours truly. -plc- |
Filson and Parker will always make a good "still life". By the way, who did the wood on your Repro. The color is wonderful.
|
Thanks for the compliment. Brad Bachelder did the wood and case colors. I showed pics of this gun last summer when he returned it to me. He has done all 3 of my repros, 12, 20 & 28, but I think this one is my favorite. It really looks like what I imagine a D grade would have looked like off the shelf in the Remington days. I think it was Brad's favorite too from our discussions.
I used it last weekend for one leg of our winter league sporting clays shoot and managed a 77. OK for me especially since I was only shooting 7/8 oz loads as I am still coming back from surgery on both shoulders. |
My faverit is a Repro 16Ga. pair...one is 28" Q1/Q2 for grouse and the other is 28" IC/Full for Kansas wild roosters...(-: This is the best combo a hunter could ask for.... Best shooting guns I have ever owned! 6lbs-4oz each Dt-PG-SF For the real Parker it would be a GHE 20 at 5lbs-15oz 28" M/F PG-DT-SF Killed many a preserve rooster with this one! Thanks all SXS ohio...

26" 12ga
As I have far fewer than most here, not that tough, but I must admit to being enamored with the balance of my little VH 12ga with 26" barrels and factory upgraded wood. For a short gun, it drops high pheasant like a hammer with its Mod/Full chokes. And, yet it swings fast on those surprise birds. You can load it light with 7/8 oz loads or put a bit more lead in the shells for pheasant.

Allan lets not get started on rifles:p. There are to many to mention.

My favorite hunting Parker is my Dad's VH but it won't be going out any more until it gets new barrels. My newest favorite is a GHE, which did well with the roosters this fall for the few times I got out. I have yet to try an underlifter 12 but that will happen next season. Then the question gets tougher, hammerless or hammer?
Ultimately, the favorite is the one in hand in the field (could even be a semi-auto somethin' or other ). For me, my newest anything is 1970 and oldest is 1881. Oldest anything shot is Win Mod 94 octagon from 1899 and accounted for one buck mulie and one bull moose with almost factory iron sights (front sight blade had been lost along the way and replaced with a penny shaped and filed to fit by a DIY guy). Oldest shotgun to take birds is Parker VH from 1901 - tight as a fiddle with 28" barrels. Took my best rooster in recent memory on a desperate second shot at 50+ yards. Very DOA. Has made me take shots I would never have bothered with in the past. I'll be shooting some of those inedible clay birds this year and will try a few guns. Maybe I'll find one favorite or maybe I'll have a commitment crisis and be unable to settle down with just one. Cheers Jack |
Jack I have a commitment crisis each time I go to the safe, this includes what rifle to use for the day also:rotf:
You want to see some real crisis (for me its mostly financial) come to the Southern and you will see more nice guns than you ever dreamed of. |
