Browning BSS 20
Th Browning BSS used to be a great value and a great rainy day gun that is nice looking, handled pretty well and could take a little hard work in stride. It seems to have elevated in status as the price keeps going up from what I see. I am looking at one that is a 20g - 28" bbl, PG stock w white line pad in excellent used condition. it was made in about 1975. Is 16-1800 a good value range for the gun providing the condition is there ? Thanks & Best, Paul

It has been a good while since I have seen one offered (20 ga.) for less than $2,000.00. I had one 40 years ago that was a good wild quail gun.

I would think that 1600 - 1800 would be about right in excellent condition. Perfect in the box might bring over 2 grand. They are good guns.

BSS 20 Gauge
That would be a fair price as long, as you say, the condition is there. Browning people seem to shy away from guns with recoil pads, so that does affect the value a little bit. But, what is really wanted in a BSS is the selector switch right behind the trigger. Guns without that will not have as much value.

Good guns for the $$$. The 20 ought to make a very good bird gun, if it is as easy to shoot well as the 12s are. |

I have a Miroku made early 70's in the same factory. 28 inch mod and full case hardened receiver semi beavertail forend and preferred double tickers.
She has a vent rib and is a great 20. |

If it's in good shape, that's a good price from what I've seen.
Some of them have been selling for well over 2K on GB lately. I'd like to find a nice one myself in that price range. |
Sorry about the double tickers thing I guess we can't always rely on spell check? I would post a pic if I could figure out how.

Only better gun for two grand would be a high condition VH Parker or Fox Sterlingworth.

Yes, there have been a few of those in the last year or two. The first set was around $10,000 and the last set was $12,500.

I had an early 20 pistol grip single non selective trigger and a 20 sporter st grip sst and they are strong well made guns but a little too heavy for my taste. Bobby

Browning also marketed a side lock at the same time, however beautiful they are rare.
