Who's going to the VGC next week?

Trying to get a handle on how many of our Parker shooters will be at Hausmann's next week for the VGC? Don't forget to check-in your scorecards at the Fox table before you shoot so you can qualify for the Fox-Parker Challenge. Let's keep the winning streak going guys and gals!!

Austin J Hawthorne Jr. 09-09-2021 11:47 AM

I will be going on Thursday and Friday for sure. Saturday is still up in the air, but the prospects are looking better.

Andrew Sacco 09-09-2021 08:24 PM

I will be shopping but not shooting due to a conflict Mike but will stop by the Parker table.

Daryl Corona 09-09-2021 08:34 PM

I'll be going all 3 days.

Like Mike said, don't forget to check in your score cards and get your raffle ticket for team selection.

Also, please note that the Fox/Parker challenge will be held on FRIDAY this year at 3:30pm NEPA time. If you sign up and get a ticket please be at the Fox table on or about 2pm or within earshot because we can't be chasing shooters around the property. Please write your name on the ticket.

Good luck to all shooters and have a safe trip.

The first day Wednesday 15th is a Pump Gun Challenge/Special Charity Event with several individual subsets, and otherwise it's open shooting for fun with over/unders and semis. All proceeds from Wednesday's shooting are earmarked for the Anthony J Rinaldi Jr. Children with Cancer, a deserving cause.

I assume at least some of the tent vendors will be setting up on Wednesday but don't know that for a fact.

Planning to arrive about the same day and time, hope to see you there. If you don't camp out where will you stay? Hopefully it won't be muddy and the Pickens Towing Service won't be needed :rotf:

Likely just for Friday.

Brian Dudley 09-11-2021 08:02 AM

I will not be able to attend.

john pulis 09-11-2021 08:18 AM

Two of the LI crew, me and my wife, are driving down from the Adirondacks on Wednesday and plan to shoot Wednesday pm, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday am. We have have to head back to LI Saturday pm. Anyone shooting the five stand? We would like to que up with other shooters.

Daryl Corona 09-11-2021 08:49 AM

John,

There will a lot of activity on the 5 stand. Bring your A.H. Fox, Parker or any other makers gun that weighs 6lb 13oz or under and compete in the Fox Upland Gun Championship on the 5 stand. If you're looking for someone to shoot with I won't be hard to find.

Daryl

Daryl,

Where did the 6#13oz weight come from? While my 16ga Fox makes it, my 12 does not at 7#3oz. The only 12ga Parker I have that might is a 1 1/2 frame PH, but it is very close.

Keavin

Daryl Corona 09-11-2021 09:14 AM

Keavin,

That weight was set by the Vintagers and it pretty much follows what most folks, especially us older ones, carry in the field. There will be a scale on site at the 5 stand which was spot on in our inaugural event.

Hope to see you there.

Daryl

john pulis 09-11-2021 03:30 PM

Daryl,

Ok. Will do. I have a 16 LC featherweight that should meet the weight requirements
.

I will be attending Friday only with 5 duck club buddies. I hope to see some new faces at our 8ga get together Friday 10am at the long bird side game.
Our group is shooting Rock Mountain Thursday, less crowding and great targets. Join us if you would like, we plan to arrive about 11 am.

Sara LeFever 09-12-2021 05:03 PM

I'll be there Thursday afternoon through Saturday. Hoping for dry weather!

Might get wet Thursday and/or Friday afternoon.

Harold Lee Pickens 09-12-2021 05:53 PM

Is the attendance at the Vintagers larger or less than the shoot there in June? Wondering if we can still camp and park in Paul's field.

Mike Koneski 09-12-2021 06:00 PM

Less

Pete Lester 09-12-2021 06:07 PM

When I went to the VC at Ernie's in 2019 I thought attendance was about the same as the June shoot with a little different mix of people. I always thought the shoot was too close to the start of bird/small game season for many people, especially those who have take vacation days to hunt.

I wonder if the ammo shortage is having any effect?

Hopefully the forecast improves, if not think of all the primers and powder we will save :)

Mike Koneski 09-12-2021 06:21 PM

However many are there won’t stop our crew! I have seven events to shoot Thursday so if you want to chat it’ll be later in the day. Like the Lone Ranger, it’ll be a cloud of dust and a hardy “Hi -Ho Silver, away!!”

Randy G Roberts 09-12-2021 07:25 PM

Please remember to bring Chuck your "Favorite Parker" for the display table. Emphasis on "PLEEEEEZE". Have a great time fellas !

RST posted the following on FB this morning. Three box limit per shooter.

RST is at Hausmann Hidden Hollows Sporting Clays.
35m · Friendsville, PA ·
Thank you to the Vintage Gunners for providing powder so we could load shells for the SxS Championship this week. There is a limited supply, so we will have a limit of 3 boxes of shells to make it fair.
Hope to see a lot of you there.

I was noodling over some classic upland literature this evening, and….

It may be of interest to competitors in the Fox Upland Gun Championship that the 6 lbs. 13 oz. max gun weight, whatever the official calculation for the rule was, accords exactly with the upper limit of these venerable specs. :

“…and many an enthusiastic grouse hunter, who finds a twelve too much of a load late on an October day, will get along very well with a gun weighing six and a half or six and three quarters." -- William Harnden Foster, NEW ENGLAND GROUSE SHOOTING, page 96.

Harold Lee Pickens 09-15-2021 08:42 PM

Looks like I'm off the fence, will be leaving early tomorrow morning, getting there around 12:30. Traveling light, no Gator, no setters, not camping out, only bringing a few guns and staying in Vestal . Not going to shoot a whole lot, just need to be around friends and hopefully meet some new ones--Andy Sacco, when will you be there?
Leaving mid/late Fri. afternoon for home.

Andrew Sacco 09-15-2021 11:21 PM
