Not a fine double but an American Classic
3 Attachment(s)
I picked up a really clean Remy M-11A circa 1928. 28" full chokes raised solid rib. $56.74 in 1929, unbelievable quality. I wish the side game events at Rock Mountain and the Vintagers allowed pre-WW2 American made autos along with the pump guns events. I would like to acquire a high condition M-11B, D and E.

the Remington model 11 was a well made gun....looks like were having bacon...charlie
|
I have my fathers 20ga. Model 11. (Not the 3 shot sportsman) Its a light, very shootable gun and I have shot a bunch of quail, woodcock and grouse with it. Cyl choke barrel.
I have to agree these guns should be included in the pre WWII shoots. |
My favorite Model 11 is a 20 gauge round top receiver conversion. I don't know who did those conversions, but I suspect Abercrombie and Fitch. I have never seen mention of these guns in old advertising. Maybe someone here has seen an ad for these guns.

On the other hand those who want to shoot vintage semis or pump guns or anything else just for fun can do that any time they want to at regular prices on sporting clays courses. Score card doesn't matter then. Just sayin ..... |
No handicap needed for the Remington Autoloading Shotgun ;)
After introduction, it was quickly adopted by trap competitors; didn't hurt to have the great Rolla Heikes and Charles Budd on board (Heikes had used a Remington double to win the 1st 1900 GAH at Targets, and both used Parkers at the 1901 Anglo-American Match) https://photos.smugmug.com/Trap-Skee...C%201906-L.png J.J. Banks then won the 1907 GAH https://photos.smugmug.com/Trap-Skee...emington-L.jpg And Fred Harlow won in 1908 Forest & Stream July 4 1908 https://books.google.com/books?id=ejQevDPMUIYC&pg=PA27 One of these would be nice; 1910 Norvell-Shapleigh Hdw. catalog https://photos.smugmug.com/Trap-Skee...%20Hdw.-XL.jpg |

Norvell-Shapleigh was lagging behind the times. In the 1908 Remington Arms Co. catalog they began offering the Matted Rib on any grade for $7 list price extra. Also the option of 26-inch barrels. By the 1910 Remington Arms Co. catalog they dropped the list price of the Matted Rib to $6.75 and began offering the option of a Ventilated Rib on any grade for $13 list price extra.

I have a Model 11 just like that one craig. It is the one model 11 that I kept from the time that I had examples of grades A - E.
I shoot the gun well, I like it a lot. |

Most likely run it as a non-trophy event for the first year and if it gets enough play we'd add a trophy in 2023. We're all about shotgunfun!! Browning A-5, Remington Model 11, Savage Model 720 and Model 745 |

Craig, are you sure the big square forearm is not original? The Model 11 skeet model has a big square forearm factory installed. Is the 11F for sale?
|
|
Now that's an autoloader I'd be proud to shoot. I actually like Cutt's.
Darn Craig, now I'm going to have to get me one of those antique autoloaders to play with you boys at Mike's. |
No Mike, I'm not buying another gun to shoot another class!

That forearm wood is certainly nothing that ever came out of Ilion. The receiver with serial number 230266 was put in work right at the end of 1920. That breechbolt with MODEL 11 on it is from the late 1930s to the end of production.
While one could get a SKEET choked barrel for a Model 11, Remington never catalogued a Model 11 Skeet Gun. The Skeet Gun was a SPORTSMAN. Attachment 99329 Attachment 99330 |

Congratulation Craig you have to start somewhere!
Sorry I'm late to the dance guys, but your playing my SONG! Lol
I've been chasing these "Old Battleaxes" for a good number of years. Craig I'm glad one came along to break the ice with, not literally though! I live about 25 miles from where J.J Blanks lived in Trezevant, TN. A good friend of mine actual shot both the gun he won the GAH with in 1907 and the Presentation No.6 Premiere (F) Grade that Remington awarded him with years ago with Jeff J. Jr. I won't highjack Craig's post with a bunch of photos but can post some if there are any specific requests. Good luck with your seach for others Craig! Will |

Not to let Dr. Drew Outdo me!

Here are some of my favorite ads from what I call the "Golden" period of Remington Advertising. Which ended in my opinion, even though I love Lynn Bogue Hunt, with the "Bears" campaign!
Enjoy, Will |
Aw c'mon Will. You don't like the "Remington Cubs"?!? ;)

some great posters I have not seen any of them before...makes me want to get a model 11....charlie
|
Will's ads are Remington Arms Co. 1905 to 1910, before the gun was called the Model 11. Drew's are Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co. 1911-1916, and I'm kind of surprised they don't say Model 11 as they began calling JMB's gun the Model No. 11 in their 1911-12 catalog.

More "Cubs" for Will ;)

Round Knob Snob!
3 Attachment(s)
I have narrowed my collecting focus to era with round knobs and stock cheeks!
This plays out in about the 1913-14 time period best I can tell from the catalogues and serial number charts. Even though the first catalogues with the flattened pistol grip also show stock cheeks, I have not seen an A grade example with both and no checkering. Sorry Craig I will break my promise! Lol One of the best examples I have come across is an 1908 RAS No. 2 (B) Grade that I picked up years ago. Enjoy, Will |

Will: I have one more 11 that came from Wards by way of Julia's a year or so ago, I'm sure you know the gun 98600. Still looking for a B and E Expert.:)

Good home for a fine Gun!
Sorry I was out of step with you.
Glad you picked up a nice one. I believe that one came out of Bob Creamer's collection. I'll keep an eye out! Will |
I’d talked myself into a pair of Model 11’s or A-5’s that were pre 1950. But I made a deal for something else Saturday and that’s gonna kill the gun buying for awhile . Well except maybe for a DH/DHE VH/VHE 20 gauge with 32” tight barrels snd shootable stock dimensions . Yeah I know famous last words , I’m not gonna buy any for awhile or only one more yadda yadda yadda .

Got outbid this weekend and it is probably for the best.
