John Davis at the Grand American

Here’s our own John Davis on the firing line in Sparta, Illinois shooting for “Champion of Champions” shooting his SA SBT.
Dead bird after dead bird !! Seems like he can’t miss! Best of Luck John! You are truly one of the Parker “Iron Men of Gundom”!! . |
Excellent!!!
The event is over except for ties with 100 x 100. How did John do?
Finally found the scores online. John missed 1 target on his second trap for a 99 x 100. Lots of 100 x 100 scores posted. John, you made us old trapshooters and the Parker community proud!
Did the forearm stay together?
My money says it did
It was a joy to watch John "SMOKE", literally, those birds. There was at least one other Parker trap gun at the shoot in the bunch that was watching John but not being shot... Wow what a gun. I'll leave it at that cause I suspect there may be an article about it.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that other Parker SBT was Mike Franzen’s SB which he did shoot. I’ll post a new thread on Mike shooting.
John Davis was shooting his SA but we don’t know which forend he used or how it ended up… . |

I decided I just couldn’t risk shooting the SB with the crack, mentally that is. So I went with the SA, which I’ve been doing pretty good with. The miss was all on me, no excuses. I don’t think I gave anything up leaving the SB at home.
At any rate, I achieved my goal. I didn’t finish in last place. |

Bruce, did you happen to notice who it was or what grade his gun was? . |

We shot our Parkers (GHE and DHE) in the doubles event yesterday. There were a couple of kids on our squad and they had never seen anyone shooting trap with a side x side. They were captivated by them and stood in wonder of the double triggers.

The Real Deal

John, and Mike you do us proud! Gary
John and Mike are great guys, but the SA1 shooter is my hero. Could it have been my neighbor Tom Breeden?
The SA1S didn’t make it to the line.
Brought it just for show & tell?

It was offered up for shooting but I don’t carry enough insurance.
Not shooting, doesn't count. John and Mike are still the men of the hour.
We’re sitting around waiting for our second hundred to start. And it’s brutally hot, even for a boy from south Georgia.

John shot doubles today and broke 97/100
Nice Work John!! Now this evening I have been informed that John's 97/100 was equaled by just one other shooter who also shot a 97/100 leaving the decision of a winner to be made in a twenty-shot shoot-off. Final score..... John Davis broke 19 straight while his worthy opponent broke 18 before his first miss. The result is that John Davis won the 2021 Grand American Class D Doubles Championship! ! ! The Ref said he had never before seen anyone shoot a SXS with double triggers, a vent rib and a beavertail forend in competition... ever. . |
Holy Crap! Good shooting John.
Wonderful!
Way to go John...
John Davis, our modern day Fred Kimble. Great shooting John!
Headed back out today for the Grand American Handicap Championship and then headed for Georgia. I’ll try to post some pictures and statistics in the next couple of days, for anyone who might be interested.
Also to clarify, after the doubles shoot off the ATA judge complemented me on my shooting and said he had never seen anyone shooting doubles trap with a side x side at the Grand, or anywhere else for that matter. I then pointed out the double triggers and his jaw dropped.
Harry is going to shoot one more Juniors event at Old Hudson Plantatation in a month and I am tempted to get him to shoot his Parker. I bet his score will go up
