damascus 16

Hello Gents,
I have been looking for a D grade damascus barreled 16 ga in nice original condition that is also shootable. I have seen them from $3,200 to $4,400. Is that about the going rate or do I need to keep looking? I know that each gun has to stand on it's own merrits and value is based on condition. I would like to know what the general opinion is on the value of the damascus barreled guns in this grade.

Thnak you,

Fritz Dornan

Hi Fritz,

I've seen guns per your description sell for $2k - $3k more.

0 frame 16's add a Premium as well.

Three weeks ago I missed a very nice 1-frame DH damascus 16 that sold for $7500.

You could get a real nice GH in your price quote....

Damascus D grade 16s are very hot and very scarce. It's been years since the 3 to 4 price would buy a good one. They are so hard to find that I don't even want one any more! :):)

It was a straight grip too.... :crying:

Dean,

Your not going to like what I'm going to post about in a couple of day's. But she sure is nice!

Dean Romig 01-24-2011 08:47 PM

Oh (groan).... you didn't buy the California DHE did you...?

He told me he sold it to a guy who just walked in off the street. The owner and I had several back and forth e-mails as I asked him about this and about that in order to confirm to myself that everything was "right" about the gun. I even went so far as to be certain that the 28" barrels cut back from the original 29" was confirmed by Parker Bros. records..... oh, groan...

Congratulations! That is one magnificent Parker!!

I'd sure like to hold that gun someday.

Bill Murphy 01-24-2011 10:06 PM

Are you saying I should cut back my 29" DH so no one will think it was cut to 29 from 30?

Dean Romig 01-24-2011 10:58 PM

Yes Bill, and I made up a jig for my hack-saw so it will cut a true 90 degree angle. If you don't have one I'll send you mine. I don't know how we'll explain the matting that runs off the end of the rib....

Bill Murphy 01-25-2011 08:14 AM

When I bought the 29" DH, I asked the seller how long the barrels were. He said he didn't have a measuring device. I measured the barrels with my tape and asked the seller whether he thought the gun had been cut. While looking at his shoes, he said he assumed the gun was unmolested. I commented that his price seemed reasonable so I would buy the gun. He seemed relieved to have sold his "unmolested" Parker at the asking price. You guessed it, original 29" Titanic barrels.

Dean Romig 01-25-2011 09:11 AM

Never say "never".

That adage is reinforced almost daily.

Paul Ehlers 01-25-2011 10:10 AM

Dean,

Watch for a post from me on factory cut barrels. Yeah that's the one, if you knew the whole story you would really be kicking yourself!

Dean Romig 01-25-2011 10:32 AM

Hi Paul, PM sent.
