Just starting to Collect 10 bore Hammer doubles. Here's #1
Just acquired an 1889 Remington and I'm in love with it, so when I was offered a 10 bore New Baker as part of a package deal I took it.
The Baker and a Mossberg 183 KA 410 bolt action that looks pristine. I'll post photos of the 1889 in a moment. |

Well I guess I won't be posting photos until I figure out how to accomplish it since all of my photos are on my phone I don't have a URL for them |

Rest assured I plan to hunt with the Remington as much as possible, and just shoot it for fun a great deal as well I am very much taken with 10 Gauge Hammer Guns myself. Acquired 2 in a month, and if I am not careful I will end up with a bunch of them. This may be blasphemy on a Parker oriented site, but I am not so much interested in the Great Old doubles, as I am in the odd and unusual ones. As long as they are in shooting condition, I am interested. 10 bores are the ones that really grab me, but other gauges are interesting to me as well. Mainly 16, 28, and 410. Never cared much about either 12 or 20 gauges at all. |
Glad to see ya on here sir

I haven't fired any of them yet. I figured I would load up a variety of charge weights with Black powder, Red Dot and Unique and do a comparison test with the RST loads. I'll be loading 2 7/8ths brass cases. |

I appreciate that. David |

Nonetheless, they are in good condition, and I will keep them that way, while using them as much as possible. There is something about antique Shotguns and Rifles that just draws me, in a manner that modern weapons never have. I can appreciate a new weapon, but I never feel any true affinity for them. Whereas I just fall in love with the old ones, so I guess I must just be old fashioned. When I hold my Remington, or the New Baker that I just acquired, something resonates within me. I feel a closeness with history, and with the Americans of days gone by, when appreciation of weapons was a National characteristic. Nowadays, that attitude of appreciation is far rarer, and becoming moreso on a daily basis. That is sad to me, as I was raised in a family, where love of fine guns, and most aspects of hunting, fishing, and the outdoor life in general, were inculcated in us from an early age. |
milt I really like the old ten in its early loadings of 1 1/4 ounce and especially the old 2 7/8 inch 1 5/8 ounce...boy if I had all my old shells I shot in this round...many of a duck and turkey have fell to this load....yes the 1 1/8 ounce loads in the ten are soft on the shoulder....charlie
