More 8 gauge hulls
4 Attachment(s)
Bought a box of 8 gauge stuff Saturday while at Prospect Hall of which there were 47 hulls . Ten new unfired Remington hulls like you can buy now , a single WIN Hull and 36 older REM plastic ribbed hulls . I’m curious to see how these older hulls fold crimp as they don’t appear to be as thick as the new REM hulls .

I can tell what age group you're in from your condiment tray. Looks like my bureau.

I have wondered on the Rem hulls if the mouth could be thinned to make them easier to crimp. What are yall using to do the fold crimps on the 8 gauge hulls? I assume its part of the converted Mec loader ?
|
I haven't loaded any eights for some time, but when I start again, I think I'll use an over shot wad and seal it with Duco or some other sealer, no crimp. I'm tempted to do the same with my tens. What do you think?

The rim on the black case looks a bit thicker than the ribbed one and I noticed on my smooth green Rem hulls the rims are a bit thicker than the Winchester hulls .The Rem hulls I have the case mouth on them are pretty rough I wonder if they could be cut down to a shorter 8 gauge hull ?

I’m sure Kevin and Bill remember the guy wearing the pith helmet and carrying a SxS 4 bore at all the Vintagers years ago. He had about a dozen brass shells, loaded with round ball, in an ammo belt. The belt had leather straps over his shoulders like suspenders (Braces, Kevin?) quite the sight to see, though I don’t ever recall seeing him shoot the thing. As I recall it was an H&H.

That was my friend Bernie Libratti. He passed about 5 years ago now and boy, did he have some odd stuff. I got him a 4 bore fowling double, back action Hammergun with 40” barrels and about 40 factory loads of no. 4 shot in 4 1/2” cases. Weighed 24 lbs and was the market gun for the Traymore hotel in Atlantic City.

I have been using overshot cards on the 3.5 inch tens because my crimper is set for 27/8. Just glue them in and shoot away

The fellow with the bandolier of brass shells and an odd costume was not my friend, Bernie Liberati.

I heard a lot of Bernie stories from him as well as several from Tom Armbrust a year or so ago . Also heard some Bernie stories from Jent Mitchell back before Bernie left this world . |
would like to hear those stories....charlie

Just about every Remington 8 gauge hull I have seen has the two dents or bulges on the case head, which I always assumed were perhaps extract marks from the industrial guns. I have one case however which doesnt have the marks on them.
