16 gauge 1 1/2 frame 32”, coming back to life

Thank goodness I bought this one cheap because it was ROUGH. It’s on the bench.
Good luck Chris Dawe! |
from what I have seen, Chris doesn't need luck
looking forward to seeing the finished project |
I completely agree Rick, about Chris not needing any luck at all.
. |
This is the gun Dawe mentioned on another thread. We talked about putting back as a restoration VH but the rib matting is an absolute mess, many deep pits. The rest of it is all very fixable. The other option is an upgrade of some sort, take all the matting off. Engrave a nice barrel script on the rib.

I little more wood off, finish in a day or so
|
Very nice Brian. I presume that is the work of Master stocker Dawe, correct?
|
Well clearly you guys are not going the VH route. And everyone of your combined efforts are home runs!
|
I have a 16 ga VH 32 1 1/2 frame with straight grip and no safety. About to go I n for resto now.

I little bit of finish and this darn wood is all screwed up, I told Dawe I wanted pretty straight grain not all this ugly figured stuff…..geez!
|
Brian,
I think I may just be able to live with that screwed up wood. Let's make a deal. Great gun and wood!!! Bob Jurewicz |
16 gauge coming back to life
You mentioned the rib being a mess, is it not less trouble to try and find a replacement rib than trying to fix all the pits you referenced? Looks like you picked the right guy for the job, beautiful wood. Good luck on the project.

I think a little 3 in 1 oil, 0000 steel wool and she’ll clean up ok?
|
Let me know how that turns out

Well it’s been awhile on this gun. The rib pitting was struck off, I added a 1 1/2 frame Remington era 12 gauge barrel to make it a 2 barrel set and the engraving is done.
|
That engraving is beautiful. It all really compliments the lines of the frame.
|
I love the engraving, especially the way it meets the fences.
|
The engraving is beautiful Brian, combined with the stock wood, this will be a stunning gun! Who is the engraver?
|
Who was the engraver of you don’t mind saying ?
|
Same as most of the custom guns I have had engraved, Lemieux Armuriers, Quebec.

Those ducks look a lot better than your typical flying turnips. Beautiful gun!
|
What was done to the rib, and how did the rib turn out?
Beautiful work. |
Look at the pictures from the original corroded rib to the struck down smooth rib

Another upgrade Journey comes to an end. Quite a nice finished product I think. So much time, debating on what to do with Chris D, Christian Lemieux and Paul Dubois. Why did I do it, a rough and beat gun…….it had great bones! 16 ga, 32”, 1 1/2 frame…..a sucker for something special “I AM”. I think of it as if it were a highly graded original gun, say B or better I could never buy such a gun! The price and competition to acquire such a thing is overwhelming today. I now have a one of a kind, original no, but as special as any rare and unique Parker to me. The added benefit is the friendship and brotherhood I have established with these 3 fine craftsmen. I am a lucky man.
Original plan was American walnut, drop points for a little flair, keep it simple with a butplate and a simple engraving pattern to showcase it being a Parker. That went into some more exciting checkering, full coverage engraving and an added 12 ga barrel set. I hope you enjoy the pictures of the finished product. A big thank you to Chris, Chris and Paul. All the best friends. |

I thought this would be fun to post, how does this all happen? Here is a series of pictures back and forth on the engraving with Paul and I.
I always get asked what does it take to do these upgrades…..patience is the most important thing…….2-4 years……and NEVER call and ask about the progress! |
What a beautiful gun.
|
Everything looks great! The engraving a very tasteful and not too much of a departure from the old style.
|
Love the 'flame' on the right side of the stock!!
. |
One word….BEAUTIFUL
|
Wow, beautiful gun Brian!
|
congrats--the gun looks stunning-- I had a gunsmith last year take apart my VH16 Parker-said he new what he was doing---in the end the gun was left in pieces 6 months later --thankfully Chris Dawe brought it back to life
---he is one of the best! |
