Double triggers on a ventilator rib gun
I don't remember ever seeing one. I think it would be a cool combination.
I guess you can't edit the topic title. For the record, it's vent rib gun.
I guess the auto-spell critter wins again. |
They are out there. I have one in 20 gauge. Barnett website also has more than one.

I have at least one and I'm thinking two. I have seen others as well. One a 32" VR 20 GHE.
I have a twelve ga and a 16 with double triggers.
I'm asking because I have a 32" Trap Gun that I'm thinking about converting. In my opinion single triggers are for over/unders.
Decades ago at the Rose City Gun Show I examined a 12-gauge 32-inch VH with the single option of the vent rib.
I have PHE and GHE vent rib double trigger guns. These guns are uncommon but not rare.
My doubles trap gun is a GHE with vent rib, beaver tail forearm and double triggers. I've tried doubles trap with single trigger side x sides and it just doesn't work for me.

After the first the shot I have a tendency to go searching for the second trigger, causing too much delay between shots and a distraction. Or, I tend not to allow the trigger to reset after the first shot, causing a failure to fire. With double triggers I never think about it.
Good point. Never considered the delay in releasing the trigger to reset. In my opinion the single trigger on a double gun, be it a SxS or O/U, was a solution to a problem that didn't exist.
I had a VHE 16 with double triggers and two sets of vent rib bbls and straight grip. Bobby

Thank God for Stan Hoover. I've got 6 maybe 8 single trigger guns that I need to unload and it's nice to see a young man like you willing to sacrifice his time to help a friend out in his time of need.

Here's one such animal that I believed was worth saving. She lingered in a small CT shop for well over a year---not rode hard by any means--but obviously put away damp/improperly stored. Thirty minutes with a Frontier pad erased a bit of that neglect. Came out of the North Haven vicinity and I have a hunch it never left the Nutmeg State. Shipped in Aug. of 1922 so I'm assuming the VR was a later add-on (unless this was one of the early prototypes that cut its teeth making diesel smoke at the Parker Gun Club :corn:) Regardless, the owner knew what he wanted. DHE 32", DT's, Safety-delete, VR, choked .040/.040. Dimensions: 15 1/2 LOP x 1 5/16 x 1 5/16. Craig Libhart took her down to 14 7/8" and re-fit/contoured and plugged the original Silvers. Here are a few before and after pics. God willing, I'll be recommencing diesel smoke production at the Bo-Whoop Challenge in a few short weeks. That gun probably spent some time at the pigeon rings.
Tool Man can come through as hard as he can. I am not worried. I’m your huckleberry!!
Great gun with beautiful stock. Nice work Steve and Craig!
How are the dimensions on that gun Steve? It looks very high by the look of how the stock comes off the action.
Yeah Brian, it's high, straighter than RT-90 at 1 5/16 x 1 5/16. Chose the least invasive route to start with a haircut, but it might need a shave as well. You know us FOX guys, we're ardent preservationists. Time will tell....
Steve - judging by the flat top of the frame I would say it was originally made with the ventilated rib.

Thanks, Dean. I thought the VR on doubles wasn't readily available until ca. 1926 give or take a few? Am I out to lunch on that? (Sadly, it wouldn't be the first time!) This is a 198,xxx gun shipped in 1922, are you thinking it was an early version? Also, the indent on the ramp is not the triangular shape I'm used to seeing. See pic below.
I told "Mister Roberts" she'll be coming to Hausmann's so you guys can set eyes on it. Attachment 96010 |
I've got to admit that's a strange looking ramp.
The 1923 Parker catalog was the first to offer the ventilated rib as an option so I think it is safe to say yours might just be an early 1922 prototype and that may be why the ramp doesn't look like most early ones we're used to seeing. I recall reading a letter referencing one Parker sent to Lefever(?) to have a vent rib installed just as an informational experiment. . |
The early VR guns I have seen did have the V groove or notch milled into the ramp, can't say I have seen that style before. It was discussed on the forum a few months ago where the early VR guns were ordered or built for stock before PB offered the VR as an option. I recall that it was reported that early VR guns were given to notable shooters to use. Point being is that there were most likely early VR guns that were not documented. I "think" in that same thread it was reported that a BH dated to 1918 with a factory VR was known to exist.
BTW Steve you don't have to call me Mister, Mister :) |
