Gunnerman books
Don't know if people are aware of Carol Barnes' bookshop. Good stuff, nice lady. I used to train dogs with her now deceased husband, Larry.

Have ordered alot of books thru them.
|
Ditto Harold. I have a perpetual dream of running across a mint "Starlight Creek Anglers Society" by Harry Middleton for a buck at a used book store.

Oops... I misremembered what I paid for it. Turns out it was $1250.-

She had a litter mate to my first setter. But I was buying from her before that
|
Her husband was a Springer guy. He passed away much too young

I bought mine waaay BC. It was 2005 according to my receipt.

You guys are playing in a different league. For $1250, it better have lots of pages or lots of pictures
|
No pictures and not an unusual number of pages... Just some wonderful writing by a guy who died too early.
ABEBooks.com has five or six for sale right now. The most expensive is $1500 and the least expensive is like $850. . |
I have paid over $1000 for Archibald Rutledge’s first two books. No pictures, not very many pages, but worth every penny for the writing.

But one must begin at the beginning with his first “The Earth Is Enough” and the four following it, culminating with “Starlight...” which pulls it all together. It almost seems in “Starlight...” that he knew his end was near...
His books don’t follow any particular theme or narrative, but are snapshots or where his head is and his love of life and fishing at the particular time that he wrote each book. . |
Some books take you back in time, some to places that dreams are made of, books open doors! I am just starting Atlas Shrugged, should have read it years ago but better late than never, Gary
|
I have been reading African Game Trails by Teddy Roosevelt which is long overdue. Great book

Mills, There are a lot of great African hunting books out there. TR's is just an unbelievable safari and maybe one of a kind. Ken |
I have some more on my list and realize even that is just the tip of the iceberg
|
I recently picked up a copy of "Pot Luck' by Roland Clark at a junk shop. Havent really looked at it yet, and cant remember when it was printed. Just a spur of the moment buy, nice pencil drawings, didnt pay much for it.
|
Pot Luck was first published in 1945, did yours come in the slip case?
. |
no, not in a slip case, probably a trade edition--will look at it tonight
|
Might just have become dilapidated, like mine, and has been discarded.
. |
The book is in good shape and apparently was from the first printing in Jan 1945 of which 5000 were printed--so it says, inside the book.

Very interesting. My copy is 1 of 450 limited edition signed by the author, however mine is missing the page denoting # of 450 with the author’s signature. Now I’ll need to go back down to my library to see if that page has been cut out.
Well, my copy is not missing that page so it is not one of the LE of 450.... And it’s not one of the other limited editions of 150, so I guess it is only a slip-cased trade edition. But like Harold says, it really is a good read. . |
A nice little read, I just finished it
|
It really is!
. |
I have the trade edition. I have a backlog of hunting books to read.
|
My copy is also one of the 5000 and has a slip case; however, someone repaired it with masking tape years ago. Always meant to get around to trying to repair it...

The title of our journal is Parker Pages not "The Parker Pages" or "the Parker Pages" as we have so often seen it.
We don't say "the Field & Stream" or "the Outdoor Life" or "the Gray's Sporting Journal" or "the Shooting Sportsman" so why do so many people say "the Parker Pages"? It just ain't right I tell ya, it just ain't right...  . |

THE Ohio State University THE University of Florida THE Parker Pages! Field and Stream and Outdoor Life are low lives compared to this publication anyways, they can't possibly pull off the "THE." |

Over my dead body!! . |
May i submit the notion that in many folks minds our publication is a stand alone among like journals. Hence THE is used to differentiate it from all lesser efforts. Perhaps it is a compliment.
