Namibia Safari

Harry and I just got back from a mountain zebra hunt in Namibia. We had a great time and got a very nice stallion mountain zebra. I shot him with my Model 70 375 H&H. Amazingly, nothing else, but we are putting the savings toward our next trip. Shout out to PH Michael Heckel, John and Anneli Wamback of ProHunting Namibia and tracker/skinner Martin. We had a great time. I asked Harry if he wanted to go back and he said “how about tomorrow.”

What a trip for you two! One to remember for years to come.

About as good as it gets! And now you’ve gone and done it. Harry isn’t alone in his hopes, I would bet on it. Priceless!

Master Harry’s ardor for hunting is inspiring.

His riposte to Babcock that you related to us a while back is one for the Ages: “…… but Daddy I do want to shoot an elephant.”

Thanks everyone! When we first headed out the first day, Harry said it was already his new favorite kind of hunting. It really is the ultimate

What a great father/son trip Mills.

Thanks for sharing.

Stan Hillis 03-24-2021 06:24 AM

Thanks for posting the photos, Mills. Are there any wingshooting opportunities available around camp there?

Mills Morrison 03-24-2021 08:16 AM

A friend shot birds in Botswana and had a great time. Several varieties of doves there as well as other game birds

Stan Hillis 03-24-2021 08:21 PM

Thanks ........I knew there were game birds to be hunted in other parts of Africa. Just wondering about where you were.

Mills Morrison 03-25-2021 08:32 AM

We saw plenty of doves and Franklins (African quail) where we were.

Got the word from Ingwe Wildlife Art that they will be getting to my zebra rug soon. We saw their studio and it was amazing. You could tell they take pride in their work and also have a lot of respect for the animals.

Zebra meat is excellent too, if you all have not tried it. Sort of a venison and pork combination

Dean Romig 03-28-2021 11:19 AM

I’m trying to picture that in my mind’s eye Mills... an ass in striped pajamas with antlers and a curly tail...

Mountain Zebra must taste different than Burchell's Zebra. When we were young and poor we tried horse meat as it was much cheaper than beef. It was excellent, so we decided to try some of the zebra the wife shot. All I can say is, you can eat it but it must be an acquired taste.

Mills Morrison 05-01-2021 09:46 AM

It was excellent. Not sure what you got, but sorry you did not get a good sample. My cousin went on safari and had some and he liked it too

Richard Flanders 05-01-2021 03:01 PM

When we were all youngsters it was commonplace to blend horsemeat into our "hamburger". Not sure if they ever do that now. My brother worked as a butcher at our small IGA grocery store and did the blending. We were never told of any of this, of course.
