Wow, I may have to make the 45 minute drive to Amoskeag for a viewing.
. |
Make the drive Dean!! Get us pictures of the watertable and barrel flats!
Better yet buy the gun. |
Why is the checkering panel at the head of the stock crooked?
|
That gun is hammered. Very hammered. It sure got a LOT of use. I cant imagine seeing a gun of this grade that was loved so much.
I have seen additional photos of the gun, not in the catalog and it needs a lot of help. |
Quote:
It is stamped “1” over the serial and “A” under the serial. |
....legend has it that the gator's teeth marks are still on the wrist!
|
No matter the grade, they were all made to shoot.
|
Exactly!!
|
I am disappointed to learn that Amoskeag is closed until Monday at 8 a.m.
They used to be open on Saturdays for viewing prior to the auctions. . |
The World is changing, right before us Dean! I think the current crowd wants to do away with auctions and gun shows, all blamed on Covid or some other BS, It is sort of worrisome when a mass shooting just happens when gun control is being discussed, in DC just saying Gary

On my way out the door to Amoskeag...

Engraving
That engraving looks very industrial, including the way the name is done.

I just returned from Amoskeag Auctions in Manchester, NH.
They don't normally allow taking pics of guns at auction there but I asked if I could just photograph the "proof stamps" and one side of the frame. They were kind enough to allow that. . |

Incidentally, this gun is completely "right" as confirmed by this paragraph in the Grade 8 Guns section of the Grades chapter of The Parker Story. Though 137720 is identified in the Serialization book as a W8.
The other two pictures are provided only as a comparison to a later Grade-8 Parker A-1S No. 168304, The Czar's Parker auctioned at Julia's in 2007. You will note that on the water table of 168304 the "S" stamps both above and below the serial number appear to have been stamped at a later date than the original A1S and 8 stamps immediately above and below the serial no. . |
Rib Inscription

Dean what are the markings at the very beginning of the rib inscription ? Tried to zoom in but still cannot read them.... Thanks !
|
The rib legend is hand engraved as were all early A1S Parkers... not sure if they made a roll die later.
This one begins No. 1 Special. (with the . beneath the superscript o) then Parker Bros. Makers. Meriden, Conn. Whitworth Steel . |
Thanks Dean. I can see it now that I know what I am looking at.
