Newly Discovered Feature on Parker's?
Interesting feature....screws tapped into the breech end of the barrel flats. For what purpose? Any ideas?

????????? no clue

May have been done in an attempt to tighten up the action. Notice the peening marks above the one - sometimes done to displace metal for the same purpose.
|
I thought of that also Kevin, but it just seemed like such a half-azzed method and the screw heads are countersunk a bit and certainly wouldn't tighten anything up.
|
Can you turn the screws? This is a wild guess....but maybe to put some tension on the shells so when the action is open they don't fall out? You might have to set them differently for different brands of shells.
I recently saw on one of the bird hunting shows that CZ magnetizes their chambers now so shells don't fall out when the action is open. Again just a guess... |
Jay, I think you may have something there. And the rounded tips of the screws seem to support your theory.

It would be a handy feature for us fellas that like to carry our Hammer Guns Cocked and Open ! Just Saying !:)

I like the idea of that feature as well and it would be a real benefit on a hammer gun. Or a a hammerless gun without a safety...
|
Unlikely, but maybe set screws to hold chamber adaptors in place?
|
The set screws do not seem to have anything to do with some type of barrel to frame fit adjustment. It is a 2 piece setup.....like a plunger with a set screw behind it. This setup allows the plunger to move if the set screw is loosened a bit. Therefore, I definitely think it was to secure something in the chamber.
Chamber diameter measures close to .700, which is normal. Chamber is 2 3/4 which at first I felt was lengthened, but the forcing cone is only 5/8". Normally I have seen longer cones in chambers lengthened later. MBWT at end of chamber is .100 or better. |
Maybe....

Here's a WAG. Looks to be an ejector gun. Perhaps you would tighten the screw if you didn't want a full ejection, therefor preventing the spent hull from hitting the ground.
