Two Barrel Storage

Wondering how you all store your guns that have two sets of barrels?
Hard case or soft case or ???? Thx

Mills Morrison 12-07-2020 02:15 PM

I have some in soft cases and others in hard cases.

I’ve only got a few , but the extra barrels are on a shelf in one of the saves .

I don't store any of my guns in cases. I only have one two-barrel set; the second set stands in a back corner of the gun cabinet where the guns rests.

I would not recommend storing guns in a case for any length of time unless you inspect and/or wipe down periodically. I keep my extra barrels in treated sleeves in the safe...and check them regularly.

My extra barrels are on pegs in the rafters

I only have one two barrel set. All of my guns in my safe are in VCI gun socks and the extra barrel is in the barrel section of a VCI takedown gun sock. This works well for me.

Treated sleeves in safe

A friend on a 3 year overseas assignment stored his guns in silicone treated sleeves. The stocks were badly discolored by the silicone

But we're talking about storing barrels only.

John Dallas 12-12-2020 12:10 PM

Understood. Just a watchout for others

Storing any gun unattended for a long period of time is risky. Too bad your friend didn't have someone to check on those guns. I've been storing guns in sleeves for well over 10 years without any negative issues, but again, I pull them out, check them over, and wipe them down regularly. But I'll be extra vigilant about the stocks after reading your post -- thanks!

His whole household belongings were in a commercial storage facility. Perhaps that had something to do with it. Temperature or humidity fluctuations?

Silicone sleeves can be problematic. VCI sleeves are altogether a different thing. They are designed for storing guns long term in humid environments.
