2021 Spring Southern - April 22-25

5 Attachment(s)
As of this writing, the 2021 Spring Southern Side by Side is on and scheduled for Thursday April 22 to Sunday April 25, 2021, at Deep River Sporting Clays and Shooting School in Sanford, North Carolina.

As we all are aware, things are uncertain in these times and forces beyond our control may dictate a cancellation. I will post on the PGCA forum about the event and will post updates there as they become available. For now, let’s hope we can all get together in April for some great shooting, great vendors and displays and, most of all, great fellowship.

For more information, feel free to shoot me a PM.

ED J, MORGAN 12-17-2020 10:51 AM

any info on motel reservations?

Mills Morrison 12-17-2020 02:26 PM

No info on hotels. I assume the Hampton will be where most people stay

CraigThompson 12-18-2020 06:26 PM

Well hopefully I can make my SECOND visit this coming year and this time stay a few days instead of five hours . Might even shoot a bit , I’ve not fired a gun in NC since the old Bingham and Parks club outside Winston Salem shut down about thirtyfive years ago .

Mills, we're ready for an update. Is Bill Kemfler making an effort to get approval?

Mills Morrison 01-21-2021 11:25 AM

The Spring Southern is still on at this moment.

It is my understanding that Bill and Mary Kempffer are no longer associated with Deep River or the Southern. Deep River was sold to Ed Strickland who as I understood it has been there for a number of years. I spoke with a young lady at Deep River some weeks ago while making my plans and she informed me that Ed and herself were continuing on with the tradition of the Southern and were more or less learning as they go if you will. It sounds like most of the vendors if not all have already come on board. Not for me to know but she did make it sound as if the Southern would go on as usual. They do have a new vendor for the golf carts that had an email address that was in error. I would suggest that you call them vs emailing as it appears that address has not been corrected as of yet.

Mills Morrison 01-21-2021 12:28 PM

It is true that the Kempfers sold Deep River, but the new owners are continuing the same routine, as far as I know

Craig Larter 01-21-2021 06:03 PM

Mills and Randy thanks for the update. I am so hopeful the Southern takes place.

Josh Lowensteiner has arranged the hotel for the Southern per the post below:

PGCA Hotel for the Southern SxS Event

Hello Friends,

The PGCA will again have the Hampton Inn in Sanford reserved for our group this year. The hotel has completed a total renovation and is sparkling new according to the GM.

Here are the details:

Hampton Inn Sanford
1900 S. Horner Drive
Phone - (919) 775-2000
Rate- $140/night

Please call the hotel to reserve your rooms. The room rate was a tad higher than previous years due to the renovation. In a year when hotels have been hit so hard, I understand the hotel raising the rate and hope you will, too.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at this years event!

Having not spent any time around Sanford other than a few hours four years ago , what’s the resteraunt situation like in Sanford ? Are there some decent not chain places to eat there ?

Craig you will not have any issues finding good food in Sanford.

Thanks for all your replies. It's like I opened the gate at the lion house. I got an email from the new golf cart vendor but have not tried the email. If it was incorrect, I'm sure it will be corrected. I had forgotten that the property was sold.

Tell me about it Bill. I got a call from the cart vendor out of the blue yesterday myself. I advised them of their email address issue which they were not aware of so it may be fixed now. Seems they called just to assure me that my card would not be charged in the "off chance" the event did not take place.

Reggie Bishop 01-22-2021 10:39 AM

Smart certainly is not me!

Brett Hoop 01-22-2021 11:42 AM

Attending/Not Attending

In light of these unusual times, who all is planning to come and, among the regular attendees, who is planning to NOT come?

Thanks

Tom Pellegrini 01-22-2021 03:30 PM

As it stands right now Mills I will attend.

When you shoot as many events as our crew does you DO NOT want to be walking!!

Mike Koneski 01-22-2021 04:03 PM

Our crew has rooms reserved since November-December. Worsley Carts called me back and is reserving my cart. After the 2020 disaster they will not be charging your CC until a month from the shoot. Last year they had to do all those CC refunds. That’s a royal PITA!! I spoke to Scott in the clubhouse and he said Bill & Mary we’re going to attend to greet everyone and yes, Ed Strickland is the new owner. Ed’s a good guy. Most of the attendees would have met him around the venue as he’s been the long time manager.

Craig Larter 01-22-2021 04:49 PM

The Fox Collectors will have a booth. Kevin, Daryl, Mike and I will be in attendance, not sure about Tool Man. Really hoping this happens.

Jay Oliver 01-22-2021 05:04 PM

I am planning to attend as well. I haven't been in 5 years, but I really need it this year.

I am hoping to get there on Thursday to shoot in both the Black Powder event(with a lifter) and then the muzzleloading event(which should be fun too). Then I will shoot in a few other categories Friday and Saturday.

It will be great to see many of you in the Parker tent again!

CraigThompson 01-22-2021 06:10 PM

I’ve not gotten a hotel reservation as of yet . But I’ve got the even more important golf cart lined up already :rotf:

Rich Anderson 01-24-2021 09:39 AM

I'll miss it this year, but will save thousands of dollars:rotf:

Bob Decker 01-24-2021 10:19 AM

The Lefever Arms Collectors Association plans to be there with a display. We will not be holding the Uncle Dan Cup there this year, that will be held at the Northeast Side by Side at Hausmann's in June.

CraigThompson 01-24-2021 02:36 PM

Well FWIW at this point I have a room and cart reserved . Arrival on Tuesday the 20th and departure Sunday the 25th .
