Turkey hunting with a Parker 10ga
I’m very new to this forum. I’ve picked up a Parker 10 ga. The serial number sets the date of manufacture in 1882. I’m curious about putting together a turkey load for it this spring. I am a reloader and have equipment for loading 10 ga ammo. Any help would be appreciated.

Check with member Matt Buckley, he has been very succesful with 10ga hand loads

If you haven't do so, I would get the gun evacuated prior to shooting Turkey loads in it.
There are several Maryland based PGCA folks who might be able to help |

Frank Cronin put together some loads for me, same ones he uses actually and several others in MA and NH. The ones I used had 1 1/4 oz. of #6 shot. A nice dense pattern. Head shots only.
His loads are very effective. Need I say more? . |

John, what does it mean to evacuate a shotgun? . |
Thick fingered it. "Evaluate "

I forgot to ask. I’m guessing I’m looking at a 2 7/8 10 ga. ?
The pictures Frank C posted give me a lot of encouragement. |

Dean gets all the credit. Dean took the picture of the turkey he harvested with his Parker. All I did was load the shells. Nice shooting Dean! |
Nice loading Frank.

Look at the reloading forum here--many pages of advise and loads for the 10 ga.

You first need to decide if you want to shoot a black powder load out of brass shells or a low pressure nitro load out of plastic shells. I have leaned towards black powder because I can shoot larger loads safely.
|
H P. Thank you for directing me. I’ve down loaded several loads and will be working on them after Christmas.

I use low pressure nitro loads in 8 and 10 gauge brass shells.

It's not "larger loads" that gets the job done - it's tight chokes and density of (#6) patterns for head and neck shots..... unless you're going for body shots, in which case you'll need BIG shot and LOTS of it pushed by lotsa powder. . |
I found it
Thank you |
