Major Waldron's and New Years Day '21

I suspect some of you are wondering about the status of holding a NYD shoot on 1/1/21. The club has been functioning in relatively normal fashion since resuming operations in June with some changes to how it operates. A big change and a significant hurdle to holding a NYD shoot is the Shotgun House is off limits to shooters. Signups and payments are made outside. There is also a waiver shooters must sign that they won't hold the club liable if the catch Carona at the club. The Shotgun House situation poses some difficulties for a NYD shoot; not having a place to get out of the cold, grab a coffee, plug in crock pots, sitting down to eat etc. We have been having some very mild weather but there is no way to predict what it's going to be on NYD so I don't feel I can commit to having the shoot given the circumstances. However, if the forecast is for a nice day, I will consider opening the club for trap and skeet for those who want to come. Obviously given the fine accuracy of weather forecasts I will only be able to give a few days notice. Would any of you be interested in coming under these circumstances?

Dean Romig 12-03-2020 04:33 PM

I’m only an hour away Pete... keep me posted - I’ll be there.

Wish I could be there, but I think between corona and Winter, it's not happening. :(

Tents??

I would love to shoot. It's been so long.
My club has the same issue with the shooters shack and now they have finally shut down.
I have at least one popup tent that we used for farmers markets back in the days we grew veggies. I could bring that up from Connecticut if it would help.
It would be great to see the NH boys and Dean-o.

Pete,
I really hope we can get this shoot in after all the others were cancelled this year. In fact I have been actively seeking donations for this years venison stew with some very good results.:)

Dean Romig 12-04-2020 10:02 AM

Nice one Larry - I blanked out this year.

Mills Morrison 12-04-2020 06:45 PM

Nice Larry ! Is it going on the wall ? i open a small taxidermy shop and have room for 1 more. Scott

Larry Frey 12-04-2020 10:13 PM

Scott,
Remaining wall space is limited so it has to be better than the last to earn a spot.;)

Saw this late and will of course be there. My club is facing the same problems and handling in the same way.
Only takes 90 min. for me to get there. Am a board member and some of the cry-baby comments we get are funny until you realize they actually mean it

Zacharysmith 12-05-2020 06:40 PM

Weather depending maybe Ill swing in as its only 15 min away from me. Just picked up a DHE 16 today. Maybe Ill give it a test drive.

Isn't that the truth.

Nice deer Larry. Congrats ! Went out this morning hoping to arrow a doe. Saw 5 bucks and a fawn, go figure.

Jay Oliver 12-06-2020 09:51 AM

If this happens, I should be able to make it. I do understand the several constraints though. I had to cancel my first ever Sandhill Crane hunt(actually I postponed it until next year) that was supposed to happen next weekend. I had a DH 10 gauge ready to go for that trip.

I missed not seeing all of you at Addieville when that was cancelled due to the weather. Looking forward to a Parker gathering soon.

For those in the general area looking for a place, Peace Dale Shooting Preserve in South Kingstown has been open. It's 10 minutes from my house which has been a great escape lately. If there is interest, I would be happy to organize a shoot there.

bob weeman 12-28-2020 06:42 AM

I will be there if it happens.....not having the house is not a big deal for me...it will be just like hunting only I get to shoot more....

Pete Lester 12-28-2020 07:26 AM

Morning all, right now the weather for NYD in the area of MWSA is not looking the best, a mix of rain and snow. I think we all know how weather forecasts can change. Keeping an eye on it. I'll make announcement either way early Thurs morning based on the forecast then.

Dean Romig 12-28-2020 08:47 AM

Thanks Pete - I’m still planning on it.

At the moment it looks iffy. Seeing some predictions of an ice storm which may or may not hit the coastal regions.

scott kittredge 12-28-2020 09:09 AM

long range forecast is see is partly cloudy and sun than light rain late in the day. I have to believe they are wright

Dean Romig 12-28-2020 09:47 AM

We'll know better on Thursday...

.

Mills Morrison 12-28-2020 10:59 AM

Good luck . . . Rain is predicted for both days of our quail hunt, although it won't stop us

One of these years I am going to try to come to the Major Waldron shoot. It always looks like a great time

Daniel Carter 12-28-2020 11:22 AM

I have told Pete by PM but i will not be able to go because of a gallbladder surgery gone wrong and during my hospital stay was covid positive last Wed. Not enough time for this to straighten out between now and then. A week in i have no symptoms yet so maybe it will work out. I hate to miss this because Dean and i were going to win the 27 yard protection shoot this year.

yes, that's what I looked at mon. late fri. before any weather comes in.

Pete Lester 12-29-2020 09:00 AM

Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control I am not going to be able to be at the Major Waldron's this Friday as I had planned to open the club and oversee a NYD shoot. I would consider the shoot cancelled at this time. I am unsure if another club member can run it in my absence but if that is possible I will post an update here.

Dean Romig 12-29-2020 09:06 AM

That's unfortunate Pete - hoping all is well with you.

Repeating the mantra of 2020... "There's always next year!"
