Made it out this afternoon for a three hour sit . Carried Brutus stuffed with homemade 000000 buckshot and my little Mannlicher Schoenauer MC carbine in 6.5x54 MS . At this spot I can’t get up as high as I usually like but still get up about 25 feet . Day was very Pleasent but no see uhms and no shoot uhms

I’ll admit sometimes back then I’d take a book with me . And I’m
Not gonna lie I’ve been known to take some pretty decent naps perched up on the side of a tree

If I leave the house and drive north towards my hunting area I lose cell service in around 5 minutes. Some days that feels bad, other days great!

Back in the same spot this morning . Saw a spike about 07:45 but he was about 70 yards away and I don’t think I could’ve gotten a bullet to him . It’s 08:30 now think I’ll hang in there for another 60-90 minutes .

I remember many years or decades ago, on an island on the Upper Potomac, gunning with a friend who owned about the first portable phone thingy. He would report in every duck we called in. It is amazing what we take for granted today. Some guys follow the Rock Island bidding while in the field. I won't mention any names.

Thanks ! Mannlicher Schoenauer carbines are another of my afflictions ! I have then in 243 , 6.5x54 , 270 , 7x57 , 308 , 06 and 8x56 MS .

Well it’s 12/16/20 and we have until 1/2/21 to kill deer . It’s looking like Brutus just might not get the job done this season . My ambition to go out and climb a tree has diminished drastically . Much nicer sleeping in recently !

charlie cleveland 12-16-2020 03:16 PM

same here but I got till jan 31 to take deer....charlie

Weather said snow today . More like sleet and freezing rain . Ten years ago I’d been out in the middle of it , NOT TODAY !

CraigThompson 12-16-2020 06:48 PM

I’ll certainly not be out in the early AM just came in from taking the four legged people out and the trees were poppin and cracking . Might go out tommorrow afternoon we’ll see otherwise this entire week might be a bust for deer and I’ll head to WVA Saturday for the 3 P’s (pigeons , pheasents and partridges).

CraigThompson 12-16-2020 06:48 PM

And no Brutus will not be attending in WVA .

CraigThompson 12-16-2020 06:52 PM

I attended a friends surprise 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration this past Saturday . This is the same guy I hunt a day or two each year at the end of the VA deer season . Hopefully we’ll be able to do it this year , perhaps I’ll make some sorta venison dish and or Pheasent dish for the midday meal .

CraigThompson 12-18-2020 07:42 PM

Went out this afternoon for the first time this week . Got settled by 14:30 legal shooting is over about 17:20 . I betcha out of the almost three hours I slept 60-90 minutes :rotf:
