Why aren't there more collector associations????
Why have not more vintage shotgun associations formed??? No Ithaca or Winchester 21 or Model 12 collector groups or Remington model 10 or 11 groups? Many of us are interested in more than Parkers. If vintage shotgun gatherings are to continue and expand more non sxs should be included in my opinion. What say you?.

I for one would like a Winchester model 21 association
|
We all know that the Win 21 group would be far superior than any of the others, right?
I guess there was something close to forming for Ithaca years ago with Walt Snyder and I think John Batzold was even involved. There is some sort of something with Baker guns that was formed years ago. It really comes down to dedicated people wanting to do it and hoping it takes off. And the interest has to be there for it to take off. |
The problem with forming a Model 21 group is that, compared to say Parker shotguns, they only made 30 plus thousand guns versus 242 thousand Parker’s. LC Smith made even more. Vintage pump guns would be a good group. Lump them all together and you have millions of guns. Just my .02 cents!

$40 , or about the cost of a tank of gas, pays for an annual membership here. The PGCA president and directors receive no payment . |

... but not a member here.

Usually collectors associations dont sell your information or constantly ask for more money.

My 2 cents but Wayne has got to go. NRA has been on the wrong side far to often and as far as I know have never stepped up to help a member in a 2A case. But they always ask for money, got tired of it and dropped out 20 years ago. Put my money into other 2A orgs and into our events.

I know why theres not more collectors associations ! No one is willing to do the work involued to make it happen ! I just got home from my club meeting there are 550 members 12 were present.

Remington and Winchester were big companies with a lot of products. There are at least two Winchester collector associations. I was a member of the Winchester Club of America for seven or eight years and there was never a word about either of my interests, Model 12/42 and Model 71 in their publication.
Remington has the Remington Society of America -- https://www.remingtonsociety.org/ I've attended four of their annual seminars over the years and they always have their annual meeting in conjunction with the Winter Las Vegas show. At these events I've usually been able to find at least a couple of members interested in the same things I am!! |
With the internet it is very easy to create a group and discover like minded people. Facebook groups (which are much like forums) are created for all kinds of interest groups like shell box collectors, illinois river decoy collectors etc. I'm kinda surprised more groups haven't formed around different brands/models of vintage shotguns. I just found a Model 11 Group on Facebook.

I really wish there was a website for those guns produced in Ithaca, or even a collectors association. I really don't know what or how much would be involved, I assume a website would be easier and a place to start? Stan |
Stan: It is simple to create a Facebook group, that is the simplest way to seek out other Ithaca collectors. Back when I started the AHFCA facebook didn't exist so I set up our first forum.
Setting up a web page is much more involved in that content needs to be created. I believe a site like GoDaddy has tools so non-programmers can set up a web page and have it hosted on their server. |
Craig,
I guess I'm primitive, no Facebook here. I know next to nothing about setting up a website, so I guess I'll keep wishing. Stan |
They are easy to use but i am not sure site building tools like GoDaddy and Squarespace support interactive forums

look at the fit and finish and the case leather work on the Nikon S2 - not unlike the craftsmanship on the guns we like |
Agreed Rick, the better 35mm cameras are fine instruments. But I seem to recall you taking digital pics of an Ithaca in August at Rock Mtn using your smart phone. :)

As far as other collector groups forming. I feel it's more a sigh of our times, the younger generations just simply aren't joiners and I'm including the majority of the baby boomers in that group. Forming & maintaining these groups takes one heck of a lot of work & effort to get them up & running & then maintaining that momentum. Unfortunately almost every one of these groups devolve into a small clique of a handful of it's membership that weather intentional or not end up driving away as many people as they attract. Then there's always the few that want to take control to drive a particular personal agenda. Over the years I've been involved with a few dog breed clubs that became brutal with people wanting to grind their own axe. The PGCA is pretty much the exception to the rule in this regard, but even here I've sensed some of these same things. It's a fast paced complex world we're living in and quite often participating in a collecting organization just doesn't fit into the schedule. |
Ithaca guns are pretty well covered at the Ithaca section on Shotgunworld.com and Walter Snyder is a regular there --
https://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/vie...a51fa2409abcfa Downside for fans of the doubles is that one has to wade through a lot on that damn slab-sided knock-off of a Remington Model 17. |
Hassleblad, Ziess Contaflex, Nikon F's, 1st and 2nd gen Contax's, Rollieflex, all very nice.
|
I agree. I am surprised there are not other groups.
But I have to say, I am really impressed how helpful this Parker group has been, even though even though I don’t have one (I just bought my first sxs (Francotte)) and the members here are very helpful and have a lot of knowledge and passion for other sxs too. Thanks guys! |

Dave, due to bankrupty and being sold off, will there still be a Remington Society? |
Why would changes in the company's status have any effect on a collectors organization?
|
I don't know, just wondering if the collector association was directly affiliated with Remington?

The NRA wishes it was half as powerful as the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

Somebody has take the bull by the horns, step up and do the work, and just make it happen. Like Craig Larter did to start the Fox Collectors Association. It takes a lot of time, effort and "want to" to do something like that. I certainly don't have it, but I'm thankful for guys like Craig who do.

I liked Shotgunworld, but cannont rejoin because my email address is already in use. However, there is no obvious way to contract the administrator. This has gone on for at least three years. How do I contract the administrator?
|
Email address? Do you mean screen name? Thought there were never duplicate email addresses

sounds like Bill was a member at one time - and cannot get back in - maybe another member of that board could contact the admin for him- sounds like he needs a password reset |
Whatever it was, email, screen name, I can't sign back in and can't find a way to contact the administrator.
