Damascus and Titanic barrels with matching serial numbers

Did Parker ever make a second set of barrels years later and create a matching number barrel and fore end? I have seen a gun made in 1895 with the original damascus barrels and a second set of Titanic steel (not available till 1897 - right?) with matching numbers and the forend numbers match and are numbered 1 and 2.

Second Barrel Set

There are many Parkers that were rebarreled, or fitted with a second barrel set, after initial shipment. The two on the second barrel set matches that barrel with its fore end.

Yes Scott, if the owner of the gun wanted a 2nd set of barrels he could send his gun back to PB and they would make barrel set with matching fore end numbered to gun.

My CH 12 bore was originally made in 1899 with Bernard Steel barrels and sent back to Parker in 1906 to be fitted with a second set of Titanic Steel. Both sets are numbered to the serial number on the frame.

My DH came with Damascus 28" and Titanic 30" barrels.

Two-barrel sets with the second set fitted later seem to be more common than guns that left Meriden originally as two-barrel sets. My gun left Meriden in 1889 as a rather heavy Damascus barrel 12-gauge on a 2-frame. At some pont after 1918, when the barrel address changed from Conn. to Ct. U.S.A., it got a set of 32-inch Vulcan Steel 20-gauge barrels and a second forearm. The Brothers P also fitted a new bolt and the post 1910 bolt plate on both sets of barrels.

Wow. Can't read the wieght on the barrel flats. That 20 must be heavy. Thanks for the help.

Dave Noreen 01-02-2011 09:13 PM

The Brothers P did a good job of swamping the 20-gauge barrels, while the 12-gauge Damascus barrels are very straight and thick. The gun weighs a fraction of an ounce over nine pounds with the 12-gauge barrels and 8 pounds 4.5 ounces with the 20-gauge barrels in place.
