V grade 12ga 26" straight stocked with ejectors, single trigger and large forearm according to the serialization book

vhe, str. grip 12 ga 26 in bbls, single trigger, large forearm. nice sounding gun. sounds like one of them skeet guns. does it have skeet in/skeet out on barrel flats? what kind of butt ? ck, dhbp.or pad

Scott Janowski 12-31-2010 10:47 AM

Well...It has been refinished and it is now a pistol grip gun with a Dogs Head buttplate, it is still a 26" gun and has the beavertail, single trigger, ejectors. The barrels will not come off (hook must be stuck) so I can not see the flats very well. This answers why there is no serial number on the trigger guard though. It looks like a Del Grego refinish. Thank you! Scott

try dry firing it and than taking of forend than barrels should come off.:corn:

If you dry fire it and then take the forarm off you will have to manually recock the ejectors and on a BTF this is a real pain. I would NOT dry fire and take the forarm off. I have learned the hard way:nono:

you should beable to dry fire it . i just tried my VHE skeet gun .dry fired it and took forend off and my ejectors did not kick than take the barrels off. mine used to kick every time i took the forend off, found out there was something off in the sear timing between receiver and forend ejectors. i had that fixed . if they do kick just use a wood dowel to reset them.

I accidently took a BTF off when the gun wasn't cocked and trying to recock the ejectors was a real pain. I have many ejector guns and won't take that chance.

OK, let's start from the beginning. Don't dry fire the gun with the forend "on". Make sure the gun is cocked. Remove the forend. Dry fire both barrels. Try to remove the barrels from the receiver. Try again and again. If you are unsuccessful, spray a bunch of whatever, maybe brake cleaner or WD-40 into the cocking slide area. Repeat the attempts to remove the barrels after putting the barrels and forend back on the gun and recocking it and dry firing it several times. Of course, the first dry firing may have released the hook. Let us know how you do.

At this point I am not interested in the gun due to the price, let me put it this way. Two times the asking price would bring this gun into 5 figures.
Thanks, Scott

I'm looking at a Parker with Serial Number 240067 (post 1934). Just curious if someone could please let me know what grade the gun was born with when it left Meridian, CT ? I'm wanting to determine this before requesting a PCGA Letter. Thx! WMH

Serial number 240067 was manufactured in 1936, it didn't leave Meriden, it left Ilion, NY. Remington's first production serial number for a Parker was on June 29, 1934, number 236531.
Attributes for #240067:
"D" Grade
Hammerless
Ejector
Capped Pistol Grip
20 Gauge
28" barrel
I am not an official Parker Bros. historian, actually just an enthusiast who bought the book. YMMV

Many thanks to all replies so quickly. I thoroughly enjoy being a member with the Parker Gun Collectors Assoc. Not only is the " Old Reliable" a great American SxS, it is the best with very high quality! Again, thank you Kevin, James and Bruce

Minor correction - the Parker Gun Works moved to Ilion in 1937.
