First Dove Hunt
 

This opening hunt was special for me, because it was my son's first time shooting birds. He got three with a Parker 16 gauge GH

In other good news, looks like we have another hunt coming up this Sunday. Harry will probably use the same gun, but I am switching to a lighter 16.

I'm sure you -- and he -- will remember that hunt...and I'm sure you'll write some things down about it to help you recall.

Very nice ! It’s almost like a breath of fresh air to see a person Harry’s age wanting to go shoot , fish and hunt rather than playing video games !

That's really cool Mills! Nothing better than watching your kids experience their first hunt and first bird. That's quite the gun he has, he must be a proud hunter. My dad started me on dove and quail with a little H&R 20. I still have it. When I look at it, I think about my days spent with dad in the field. Seems like it was just yesterday when I watched my first bird drop!

Yes in fact he has , but because of his particular circumstances and me waiting for his endurance to improve - this however will be his first real ptarmigan hunt .

That’s great. With you as his mentor he can’t help but have a good time and hopefully bag a couple of birds.

Julia and I went to a great dove hunt this afternoon. Another one tomorrow that Harry will participate in. Sherwood made some great retrieves even though he had some help from his new shocking collar

We call them "training" collars so as not to offend the sensibilities of the ladies and children in the gallery... :duck:

Ask Sherwood if it's a training collar or shocking collar. Especially in the hands of his mother who doesn't know about the vibrate function.

The collar was my best investment ever Mills! Didn't take long to to go from shock, to vibrate, to tone or beep, then to whistle. The collars were eventually left at home. My little setters were just too high strung, but I won in the end.

I think once he got disciplined and got down to work, he enjoyed the hunt more. He made some great retrieves

Harry got another three doves on his second hunt! He got two before I got my first and he said "Dad, you're on the board now"

Got some better pics this weekend too. Without being too obvious you'll have to be a PGCA member to see them

Here is everyone worn out

I found almost 2 full flats of Eley 16 gauge shells this summer. Supposed to be 2 1/2. They kick like a mule, but we burned serious powder on them
