Parker’s at Trap

Well thanks to John Davis I’m hooked on trap shooting. That has me wondering how many of you shoot your Parker’s at either informal trap shoots or registered targets? If you do what’s your go to gun and let’s see a pic or two.

John Davis 08-16-2020 09:16 PM

You're welcome.

They have or had a fifty bird SxS only event at the Virginia State Trapshoot . Danny Patton and i shot it the first two years they did it and he won the event the second year with a 49 out of 50 . Patton shot a circa 1913 VH 12 gauge 2 frame 32” XF/XF I foolishly sold him , that gun had modern dimensions I’m sure someone ordered it as a pigeon gun . I shot my plain old VH 2 frame 12 gauge 30” F/F .

Our group tries to squeeze in a round of Chinese Trap every Friday morning. There are many great guns used in our competition.

i have just started shooting trap with a SB that Sheel's was kind enough to sell me as a SC.

Harry Collins 08-17-2020 08:28 AM

Mike,

I have been shooting competitively with a Trojan with .030 & .040 constriction and a VH with .030 and .042. I took home $35 from a farm boy shoot yesterday with the Trojan. 1oz-7 1/2-1180

Orphan Annie. She may have a cropped barrel but she breaks 'em just fine when the operator does his part.

I believe this GH 12 was intended for trap. Straight grip, high dimensions, 32" barrels. Shipped to EK Tryon. It performs well on trap. I got close to getting one of the SBT's in the Morphy auction

This is what I use for trap when I need to do my inadequate best.

1905 CHE 30 inch , originally went to Pacific Iron and Steel in Los Angeles as a no safety but it went back to have a safety added. Original wood, original barrel browning and case colors. High dimension stock and I think it has always been a target gun. I had a new rubber pad installed but kept the crusty , hard and dried original.

Maybe there was somebody at Pacific Iron and Steel who was a shooter. There is a Pacific Sporting Guns in San Bernardino, I called them but was told there was no connection.

I'd say my best trap shooting gun is my 1883 vintage 32" twist bbld F/F grade O hammer gun. Definitely far and away my best long range shotgun. Second would likely be my 30" F/F damascus DH12.

This was mine.

If found, return it to its rightful (and foolish) owner.

My favorite is my SC 34”. Crushes targets. I use either 3/4 or 7/8 oz handloads as my shoulders won’t tolerate sustained recoil of standard shells. Next favorite is a garden variety VH 12 30” full and fuller. Same deal with shells. The VH has very modern dimensions.

Sweet gun Mr. Davis. I like the Defiance Trap Load from the US Cartridge Co. in the pic. I recently picked up a box of their Climax and Ajax loads. I think the Ajax was the high brass and the Climax was the medium brass. Defiance was a good name but marketing should have spent a little more time on the other 2 IMO. :)

Randy, Bachelder had my SC for a year trying to put in a release. He said it would work most of the time but that wasn't good enough for him or me.

John Davis 08-19-2020 04:53 PM

I have acquired two Parker SBT's with release triggers. I've had them both reconverted to pull.

A beautiful CHE Double Trap Larry. The engraving looks to be late twenties but the wood looks Remingtonish. What is the serial number range if you don’t mind?

Perfect Doubles Trap gun.

allen newell 08-25-2020 07:43 AM

I shoot skeet far more these days than trap. But when i do shoot trap it has been with either a 12 ga vhe w/28 inch barrels mod and full choked or a pristine Fox Sterly 20 ga choked mod and full.
Waiting for a nice parker single barrel trap gun to fall into my lap.
