Parker VH SST VR no Safety Beavertail
10 Attachment(s)
I ran across this little Parker the other day and it shoots very well. It's an unusual gun in that it was made right at the transition of ownership between Parker and Remington in 1934 and it has some unusual features. The letter didn't capture all of them. It has a large forend with the correct barrel lug and reinforcing rod, a Parker single selective trigger that works well, a vent rib and NO safety or even a slot for one. It's not perfect, but I like it because of all of these features. :)

Very nice! Do you think the engraving where the safety would have been is there to cover a filled in safety slot? I dont know how Parker did their no safety guns, I am sure someone will chime in. What length are the barrels?
|
Barrels
The barrels are 26" with Cyl/skeet chokes.

Any clue as to the original ownership of the gun? Sometimes an IBM card names the original customer. This gun may be too early for an IBM card.

It looks to me like the slot is there but has been filled in. I think I see a section of the slot extending to the right of the engraving. Interesting gun! |
Hi is is entirely correct as the slot was filled and engraved over as evidenced in the pics

That no safety treatment (filling and engraving over) is often factory done.
And not as often seen is the is the solid (no slot - no filled) top tang more often seen on competition and pigeon guns. . |

Here's a little better picture of that area. It is a slot that has been filled in and engraved over. Good eyes, I didn't see that at first.

Is it a 12 ga? I like it.

12 gauge
Yes Reggie, it's a 12 gauge.
There was another one there, a 12 gauge GHE with 26" barrels and a vent rib. But it had had the Del Greco treatment and I passed on it. |
I too have a VHE 12g live bird gun from about the same time frame as yours. SST, right full, left IC, no safety, BTFE, straight grip, 32" bbls. Parker letter and info from G&H (A&F) regarding previous owners. GREAT GUN!!!!

I have never seen a no safety Parker or Fox that I couldn't pick out the filled slot with enough magnification. I have seen regular frame L.C. Smiths where I couldn't find a filled slot.
