OUR NATTY JO IS EXPECTING!!

3 Attachment(s)
We are expecting a litter of English Setter pups somewhere from August 19-23. We had Royal Sterling's Schuyler here for a breeding with our Decoverly's Natty Jo back in June and it's finally happening!! Jo is a tri-color and Schuyler is a orange belton. These should be beautiful pups!!

Dean Romig 08-06-2020 08:15 PM

Both Ryman style?

The third picture looks more Llewellin style.

Mike Koneski 08-07-2020 10:34 AM

Yes, Ryman type Setters.

Mike Koneski 08-13-2020 05:21 PM

Jo went into labor this AM. First pup popped around 9:20. It is now 4:22 PM and there are 8 puppies!!! I will probably keep a tri-color male. Since this is the 25th anniversary of Mickey Mantle's passing, I may name him "Mick". Destined for greatness!!

Dean Romig 08-13-2020 05:27 PM

Keep us posted - there may be more.

Now the work begins...

Mamma and 8 pups are doing well. 😁

Mike Koneski 08-14-2020 09:57 AM

Sorry, after checking them this AM we have a mom and 10 puppies!!

Mike Koneski 08-14-2020 02:36 PM

We did lose one pup. It was a premie and would not attach to eat or eat by supplemental feeding. Back to 9 healthy pups.

Dean Romig 08-14-2020 03:40 PM

Losing a pup in a litter that size is not uncommon. Those are the weakest usually and not likely to do well anyway.

John Dallas 08-14-2020 05:11 PM

If I read it correctly, John Olin's King Buck was a runt

Craig Larter 08-15-2020 05:33 AM

Congratulations on a beautiful litter of pups. A friend was able to save a pup that had to be nursed by hand to survive. The pup made it and he is named Toast.

Garry L Gordon 08-15-2020 08:10 AM

Wow. Beautiful pups. Now there's a whole bunch (er...litter) of optimism for the future!

Mike Koneski 08-15-2020 11:46 AM

We have a litter of English Setter pups. 9 puppies!! Both the dam and sire are papered through FDSB and have awesome pedigrees. Should be ready to go mid-October. Dam is a tri-color Decoverly and Sire is an orange belton Royal Sterling (MI). Cost of the dogs is $1200. $200 non-refundable deposit gets you reserved on the list. The litter will be registered and will have necessary vaccinations and deworming.

Alfred Houde 08-16-2020 10:07 AM

Beautiful dogs and litter.

Yes, King Buck was the runt and a very sickly pup. Sometimes they turn out to be one of the best of the litter. Years ago, I took a chance on the runt out of a litter of Bluetick Coonhounds. I knew that both sire and dam were proven coon dogs, so the odds were good.

She turned out to be a nice little coonhound. Fast and hard treeing. Any pup is a gamble. The key is in the breeding and genetics.

Mike
do you have hip and elbow ratings on the dam and sire from the OFA?

Orthopedic foundation for animals?

Mike Koneski 08-19-2020 01:23 PM

Yes. Danny had Schuyler done and Decoverly had Jo done.

The King Buck you speak of owned by John Olin was considered the GOAT. John also founded the OFA to improve all breeds health and wellbeing.

Decoverly's Natty Jo registered in November, FDSB # 1687065. PenHIP 3/6/19 RT 0.25, LT 0.27, no osteo or cavitation, #2196. OFA result was good. Dam is Decoverly's Knick Knack, Sire is Decoverly's Music Man. Schuyler's FDSB # is 1660939. His OFA preliminary exam was good-very good.

Mike there is no Very good certification from the OFA and "preliminary results" don't count,
Its like serial numbers on parkers you have the Hip and Elbow certification numbers from the OFA number or you don't.

look up OFA for animals its quite a effort from John Olins dream.

Mike Koneski 08-19-2020 08:45 PM

Decoverly didn’t give paperwork on OFA, told us the result was GOOD. PennHip was negative for any issues too. We did a good breeding with good dogs. Really doesn’t matter to us if you don’t like it. We have a close relationship with Danny Lawrence and Bridget Bodine and will continue to do so.

legh higgins 08-20-2020 06:07 PM

breeding purebred English setters has evolved Mike and the people you are getting advise from are two of the worst. the Ryman Setter group was formed to educate and inform customers and breeders about the Best Practices. Perhaps you should do your due diligence and get the proper health clearances like reputable breeders. You should at least suggest ALL buyers get health insurance on their pups. Bilateral hip and elbow dysplasia is very real and very expensive to correct. I had a dog from Royal sterling (dysplastic hips at 2 years old) and another from Brigit that was Dysplastic as well. this is VERY REAL regardless what you were told. its ok if you "Dont care" what I think but crippled dogs suffer and that's what concerns me.

Ladies and gentlemen, due to a dog Nazi hijacking my thread I will reply to your inquiries via PM. Thank you.

David Gehman 08-22-2020 09:08 AM

Wow, not a hijack but a massacre of a thread.
Not sure it was necessary to put down Mike in that manner.
If you wanted educate us on issues you could have started a separate thread.
IMHO if someone feels a need to denigrate someone to uplift their own business, well....
Good luck with the litter, Mike.

Alfred Houde 08-22-2020 12:13 PM

Actually, the question(s) could have been asked and answered via Private Message. If any potential buyer had that question, they can also ask.

As far as I know, English Setters do not have a breed warden.

Mike Koneski 09-29-2020 07:03 PM

The last puppy sold on Sunday! There were four potential buyers in line. All eight are going to new homes the end of next week. They are all right around thirteen lbs and growing like weeds!! My Mick is really developing some gorgeous tri-coloration. Onward and upward!!

Here are Mick and Mamma (Jo). Mick is 12 weeks old today! The apple didn’t fall far from the tree!

Dean Romig 11-04-2020 08:18 PM

Wow - that’s incredible!

Mike Koneski 11-04-2020 08:39 PM

Isn’t it??!! Uncanny resemblance.

Bob Jurewicz 11-05-2020 12:36 PM

Looks like you probably go thru a lot of throw rugs at you house Mike.
Good looking dogs!
