Opinions on this W&C Scott 10 ga
I looked at this gun a few months back but then it was gone so I figured it was sold but it was relisted today . Its a 10 gauge hammergun with 3.5" chambers and at a hefty 11lbs . The dolls head doesnt look original to the barrels so I am wondering if it was rebarreled and the old dolls head attached to the new set ?

The barrels and doll's head look original to me. Perhaps refinished. The stock surely has been refinished. It's built on license by Scott on a Purdey patent thumb break action. Quite common.

I think a 10 ga magnum hammer gun would be pretty sweet if its not a bomb :rotf: |
Yes. It could have been sleeved. But where? In the US, there's no proof requirement. From the look of the gun, it's had its share of "enhancement." Barrel wall thickness at the chamber's end is the key. Otherwise, it seems OK for the price range. Perhaps a bit high. There's a lot of work to get it half way decent again.

there are better guns right now for the money and I dont think it would be smart to buy a project I intend to use so close to season . |
I like the Purdey thumb lever. It should have a patent use stamp and number on the action flats. J.P. Followed by a number.

There was a Francotte 10 ga that sold recently with 3.5" chambers that was clearly marked on the barrel flats 2 7/8" and it was not a heavy 10 ga either . |
It’s a nice looking gun. I noticed they didn’t give the DAC and DAH. Looks pretty severe to me.

Take a look at Phil Carr's 10 ga German hammer for sale on the forum.
Sweet gun, more expensive, but doesnt need any work either. |

Im on the fence about what I want to buy this coming Autumn , I really need to buy a boat if I want to go duck/goose hunting . Or I could save the money and just use my Parker 10 gauge in the dove fields :rotf: |
Nice gun, but lots of drop. I would need to know the dimensions before I could make a decision.

I think it's been re barreled. A gun that age would have smooth top rib. They look like fluid steel too.

I was also looking at a NID 10 ga magnum for $1900 but it needs a forend , ive found stock makers who carry forends for the 12 and 16 gauge NIDs but not the 10 so im not sure what it would cost to remedy that . |
"Wood replaced". How much do you think that will cost? There is no part of this gun that is original. American walnut on a Scott?? The muzzles are 1/10" thick. Scott didn't do that. Where are the proof marks? I don't think they know how to take the gun apart to look at the proof marks.

There are so many honest English hammer guns available, why not shop around. One other thing when they proof guns in Europe they are not including the receiver, just the barrels, that receiver is not designed for magnum loads.
