Factory Beavertail?
 

Cabelas has a very late Remington era 20 gauge DHE. It looks to fit all the specs of a skeet gun, but Cabelas has the chokes listed as MOD/FULL. # 241779

Wondering if the forend looks factory to you guys?

Kirk here's a pic of one that's right for comparison. Looks right to me. You might inquire about the presence of the reinforcing rod as well as the reinforced lug for further confirmation.

The serial number on original wood is located under the fore end iron. Only way I know to be sure. As a caveat I have only examined splinter fore ends not beavertails. Maybe others have seen the sn on a beaver tail forend. http://parkerguns.org/forums/attachm...9&d=1555099893

Not if it is an ejector gun.

The stamped serial number on ejector guns is under the forend iron. I have also seen it stamped there on later extractor guns.

FWIW it lacks the double ivory beads. Ask for a picture of the barrel flats and the forend lug for starters.

At $9700 I couldn't get away from that gun fast enough!

That would be my guess. I had a 20GA DHE 32" restore by DelGrego with the same issue. The screw holes were fill and engraving was restored. I was always unhappy with that imperfection.

An original ejector splinter forend with serial number and a replacement ejector splinter forend without serial number. For the money being asked I would want to see the number on both the beavertail and the butt stock. I assume Parker Bros stamped the number in the beavertail as well. Anybody got one with iron removed to show the number? Cheers Jack

I have a skeet configured 20 gauge VHE with similar holes. Maybe I should go for a pair. Bob, did Del Grego fix your holes or did someone else do it?

To be clear about ejector forends and serial numbers.

When they are serial number stamped, they are matked in the location that Jack showed a picture of above (in the inletting where the mainsprings are).
But, I have observed MANY completely original ejector forends that are not stamped at all. In fact, more that were not than ones that were. And sometimes when there are nunbers in that location, it is not the complete number.

In fact I would say that both forends that Jack has in that photos are original. Just one is stamped and one is not.

Other ways to try to authenticate ejector forends is that sometimes the impression of the serial number from the latch and banjo tip are left in the wood. Also on later guns (from the 30s and 40s), the grade number is stamped in the inletting for the latch (in the front round portion). Ie: a large “3” on a D grade.

Kirk is right, that Parker has been on GI for maybe 8 months or more and the price was in the $6k range. They probably got tired of getting 3-4k range offers. Without even thinking of a restoration you have oil soaked wood and a potential popped dolls head that need attention

To me that doll’s head appears perfect in every way. Those screws are there where there was a Nydar sight installed at one time.

You are correct on the two screws, I may have shot past the photo of the full rib, but they must have drilled out the short rib screw and replaced it, because that screw is right where the dolls head rib screw should be
