Nostalgia Shoot at the Grand
 

Remington will be sponsoring the Nostalgia Shoot a the Grand American this year. In order to participate, you can only shoot a Remington 10, 11, 11-48, 29, 30 or 31, Winchester 12, 21 or 1897 or Ithaca Single Barrel Trap gun (no matter what year it was made). That's right, Parkers are not allowed.

I guess Remington forgot they bought Parker Brothers. UNBELIEVABLE.

That’s a disgrace, not only to Parker trap shooters but to the history of Remington Arms as well.
What thoughtless incompetent put that list together?

Has anyone contacted the ATA or Remington to ask why? Maybe a carryover from last year. I'll contact the Executive Director and see if he replies. Just another reason I don't support the ATA anymore.

They don’t have any of the Remington SxS’s listed either but they have the Winchester 21 ! And the O/U Remington 32 . Seems to me if they’re going to include the 32 they oughtta include the Browning Superposed .

I reached out to my Cousin who recently stepped down as the ATA Pres. He has informed me that last year was an over sight and Parkers "WILL BE ALLOWED" this year.

The 2020 program went on line yesterday and is headed to the printer. NO Parker is listed. The guns I listed came straight from the 2020 program.

It is my understanding that as a side event it is up to the sponsor (Remington) to determine what guns are allowed. I believe the oversight is on their part, not the ATA.

That's an odd collection of allowables, the Ithaca SBT seems like a strange one to have thrown in. If not for that looks like a Rem vs Win sorta deal.

Can I put my money on the Model 12? :D

John I have no knowledge of those things or ATA protocol. I simply inquired and was informed that Parkers will be allowed.

My understanding is that the Nostalgia shoot was originally sponsored by Federal and was the effort of a long time employee. The employee's father shot a model 21, an Ithaca SBT and something else. Therefor those were the only guns allowed. This went on for years. Last year was the first year Remington sponsored the event and they added the guns listed. I heard there was talk of adding Parkers to the list this year but they are not in the program. Hopefully they can amend it.

Randy, your cousin is a past president of the ATA and a marksman of your caliber doesn't shoot trap? Shame on you.

The Nostalgia shoot held at The Grand was introduced by a Federal Ammo representative named Devon Harris. Harris, a shooter and from a family of trapshooters started the event in honor of his dad who shot a Winchester Model 12. When the shoot was introduced and for the years Federal sponsored the event, the Ithaca SBT and Model 12 were selected because they were the dominate trap guns at The Grand during the 20`s to the 50`s.
I think 2018 Grand was the last year Federal sponsored the event. Last year Remington decided to sponsor the event... John, my guess is they will allow you and any others to enter with the Parker SBT.
I don`t believe the event has been won by a SBT... Maybe you can make the Parker a winner!

Remington obviously put it all in the hands of an employee who is ignorant of the past... like so many younger folks today. So history,through ignorance, is slowly, piece by piece, disappearing.

Actually I do like to shoot doubles and wobble trap John. Is it possible that you may know my cousin Terry ?

I know of him but have never met him. Would like to meet him though.

And yes doubles is fun but I really struggle with it.

I believe the rather soft language surrounding the list of guns would indicate that the "list" is only a suggestion and other guns of similar age and design will be allowed. One poster has already gotten permission to shoot a Parker single.

"Remington Arms Co. is preparing to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and is simultaneously weighing a possible sale of the company to the Navajo Nation.

The Wall Street Journal reports Remington is “[making] preparations for the Navajo Nation to serve as the lead bidder to purchase Remington’s assets out of Chapter 11.”




Reuters reports that this is the second time Remington has looked to bankruptcy protection. The first time was March 2018, with the company emerging from bankruptcy that same year.

Remington is currently in an expensive litigious battle with Sandy Hook families who filed suit after a Bushmaster AR-15 was stolen and used in the December 14, 2012, attack on Sandy Hook Elementary. Remington is the parent company of Bushmaster.

The opportunity to buy the company via a bankruptcy sale gives “a potential buyer the chance to purchase Remington free from legal liabilities.”

Navajo Nation “is planning to vote to approve the deal…soon,” and if the deal is secured some think that civilian sales of Remington AR-15s will be ended. The talk of end to AR-15 sales is based on a New York Times report on the Navajo Nation’s 2018 bid to buy Remington. At that time the Navajo Nation “intended to shift the company away from its consumer business, including curtailing the sale of the AR-15-style weapons frequently used in mass shootings, to focus on police and defense contracts.”

They don't want any boat anchors. 😁
